Dried beans etc vs tinned

I have tinned chickpeas just in case of lazyness. Also Kidney beans for the same reason.
But I do buy dried pulses and like others I soak and cook the whole batch in one go and freeze in bags.
Dried chickpeas are always better than tinned.0 -
I do pulses a bag at a time in a big dish in the microwave, having soaked first. Only very low power once they are boiling. This takes less time than traditional methods, plus doesn't need watching.
eta, then I cool and freeze them in bags."Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad"

Hi marmiterulesok,
As Your thread has dropped down the board I've added it to our existing one on the same topic to keep the replies together.

However, I know it's two years too late... but people will look for this information....
3 websites I found state that 100g Dried = 400g Tinned (Before Draining)
500g Dried = 93p
5 x 400g Tinned = £2.40
To do this I used myfitnesspal's calorie calculator / recipe editor. On a strict diet at the moment so interested in portion sizes and it seems to work out that 500g dried red kidney beans = approx 3 cans (400g) of red kidney beans (240g drained weight) each.
Dried 500g = 575 calories, 3 tins = 657 calories0 -
I mostly used dried, but I always keep a couple of tins of chickpeas in for when I haven't planned ahead. No pressure cooker, so I batch cook and freeze for the slower-cooking ones.
I don't bother with dried kidney beans or butter beans though. Kidney beans because they're so cheap tinned and butter beans because I actually prefer the texture of the tinned ones.Saving for deposit: Finished! :j
