bt leaving charge

Whilst I understand the argument you are making, there are definitely people who will pay far less by taking the entire package (line rental, phone, broadband) from TalkTalk than keeping line rental with BT and paying someone else for the remainder.Only BT are forced to allow you to use cheap call access, others such as TalkTalk can and do block cheap call access. Means they stuff you on certain calls, then when you find you want to move on it can get quite expensive, so you find you have the choice play the inflated call costs once they have enough people, like they have been slowly doing and therefore paying more than others, or pay a high move back to BT fee.
It's never wise to move line rental away from BT. You might not realise it now, but there will come a time when you'll remember this thread.
I definitely fall into this category. I have unlimited UK calls and broadband and line rental all for under £20 per month.
It's only if you make non-standard calls (which I don't) that you are liable to get charged more by TalkTalk IMHO.0 -
Help!!! I've just received a BT Home phone bill which included a £228.79 cancellation charge!!! Surely this can't be right? Any ideas what i can do to get out of paying this??0

What BT services did you have and for how long?
What have you cancelled and why?Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
I was with Tesco and only joined BT because I wanted broadband with Tiscali and they wouldn't do it without a BT landline. I'm not sure what package i got, I only wanted the basic, maybe "BT together." I can't find any contract or anything but I definately wasn't told about such a huge cancellation charge or I would never have done it.0

If you had a BT line installed - that'd be £124.99 incl. VAT and would have meant you were contracted to stay with BT for 12 months. If you breached that contract by moving your line rental to Tiscali, BT's minimum charge of £70 for breach of contract would also apply.I was with Tesco and only joined BT because I wanted broadband with Tiscali and they wouldn't do it without a BT landline. £124.99 + £70 = £194.99 so, assuming quarterly line rental in advance (£33), that's a total of £227.99.
I can't explain the other 80p though (a few calls perhaps?).Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. You might want to query Tiscali about why they refused you in the first place. According to them, "You will need to have either a BT standard line and account, billed directly by BT (there is no provision for cable or other fibre optic networks) or a "Calls and Access line" (These line are provided by BT, but will be billed by another operator." I would imagine a Tesco line would fall under "Calls and Access" unless someone knows otherwise?“I look like Spiderman at a funeral”~ Karl Pilkington0 -
Presumably they don't fall under that, if they are Local Loop Unbundled lines.0
