Manhole Cover Broken - help

Hi All,
Got some very handy advice in my first post recently so thought I would ask more of you some help with my ongoing drainage problems.
Recently had drains unblocked by company (yesterday). Today noticed manhole cover split in 5 parts. Company denies this being their fault obviously. The problem is I need a replacement manhole cover. Previous one very old, cast iron and odd size.
I have looked at various sites via google and unable to find one the size I need.
My one is 26inches (660mm) by 20inches (508mm).
Do any of you know anywhere that might do these older sizes?
Does anywhere sell reclaimed manhole covers?
Is there another suggestion?
Appearance is not of primary concern, however my car goes fairly near there and I suspect the van mentioned above was the reason this broke in the first place.
I will buy a cyber pint (and possibly real pint) for anyone who can give me an answer).
Thanks all.

Go to your local engineering shop/blacksmiths and get a piece of 1/2inch thick steel plate cut.
Its probably cheaper than re-newing the whole assembly.'Beware of little expenses. A small leak will sink a great ship'. -Benjamin Franklin.0 -
Go into any good builders merchants, and if not instock they will order you one.
If it is only foot traffic, you can use pressed steel galvanised , or plastic one.
Do not use 1/2" steel as this will 1, rust, 2, be expensive, 3 be bl**dy heavy.0 -
Yep, get a fab firm to knock one out, 6mm durbar with folded down sides to give it thickness if it needs it.
Get it galvanised aswell if you want to get keen!0 -
its probably better and easier to change the whole thing.
The existing is certainly an old imperial sized one.
Actualy it might not be easy
anyway I had a slight miss match on a job years ago so i just broke the frame and spread it a little so it would be slightly larger the lid was about 1 millimeter too big0 -

1. so cast iron (original one) magically doesn't rust.?
2. sheet steel is cheaper than paying a builder to re-fit an entire new unit.
3. heavy yes but safe, how many years will it take 1/2steel to rust through.
The OP cant find one and has an open hole so steel will do the job quite happily'Beware of little expenses. A small leak will sink a great ship'. -Benjamin Franklin.0 -

Just so we have a proper internet argument
I could say the rust may jam it shut
Chequeplate would do the job and is available in stainless or ally0 -
OK lets just say that if you cant get one off the shelf go and get one made by a engineering shop/blacksmith out of what ever they recommend.;)'Beware of little expenses. A small leak will sink a great ship'. -Benjamin Franklin.0

Of course they do but most now call themselves ???????? engineering or something like that.
Generally working from an overgrown back street lean-to.:rotfl:
If you see a Fred Dibner lookalike you've found a blacksmith.!!'Beware of little expenses. A small leak will sink a great ship'. -Benjamin Franklin.0 -

We had exactly the same thing happen to us. OH went to a local building reclamation centre and found a replacement there.0
