Of course that should have been "helping others to avoid making the same mistake."

15 of us went to vegas in march and 4 of the party hadn't filled in the esta form (despite me texting them 3 times each reminding them) and they got through fine
    helpful tips
    it's spelt d-e-f-i-n-i-t-e-l-y
there - 'in or at that place'
    their - 'owned by them'
    they're - 'they are'
it's bought not brought (i just bought my chicken a suit from that new shop for £6.34)

I cancelled my card as a precaution and also I would prefer not to give £20 to a company that has not provided a service.[...] I agree that this company is operating within the law.

So what you're saying is that you willingly entered into a contract with a company but when you decided you didn't like it you cancelled your bank card in an attempt to avoid paying for it? Any other company would start chasing you for the debt, so I wouldn't necessarily assume you'll get out of it. After all, no one forced you to sign on the dotted line.

As we've said, for the moment the US authorities have allowed for a several-month-long period of grace to enable visitors to get used to the new system. There will come a date pretty soon when they'll be stopped even from getting on the plane without one, so anyone reading this thread please don't just assume you'll be fine not bothering!

    Hi,

I'm travelling to New York in June 2009 and so far I have booked my flight and hotel for the trip, I know that I have to apply for the ESTA online before I go but is there anything else that is required to enter the USA e.g. other forms etc.?

    Thanks...

You will have to fill in a customs form - you'll get given it on the plane.

You MAY still have to fill in the visa waiver form, duplicating the ESTA. If so, again you'll get given it on the plane.

Insurance (medical) is a 110% necessity. Get it now and be covered for cancellation as well

Was an idiot, need a bit of help! I was filling out the esta for my parents who are going to new york in june, i entered the departure city incorrectly, put glasgow instead of edinburgh, i guess because i'd just filled out mine and i'm flying from glasgow. I corrected the mistake using the update facility but their prinouts say glasgow. Will this matter? and if so how can I re-print their authorisation?

    Cheers

    zaf.

No it won't matter. As long as the version on the computer has the right details (and make sure it does) they will be fine. It's not compulsory to take a printed copy, and the one they already have shows they've got the authorisation, which is the main thing. I'm sure though the website will allow you to print a new one...?

cheers mate, that's kinda put my mind at ease, the details are definitely correct online. will have a look again on the site, but couldn't find a way to reprint the whole authorisation
