I applied for ESTA last November 2008. Being the cautious type, and flying off to the States next week, I thought I'd better check everything was in order.
Logged onto what I thought was the ESTA website, entered my details, passport No. etc, and was informed that all was in order and that they were awaiting payment of some 45 dollars!
Now I happen to know that. at present, applying for an ESTA is FREE! Just how this "Agent" had my details, I'll never know.
Eventually, I found the correct website, which is at: https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov
    and all was OK.
 So just be warned that there are companies who will ask you to complete the ESTA forms and charge you some £32 for privilege of allowing them to click SUBMIT!

They probably didn't have your details - when you logged on to the ESTA site through them, they just checked what you typed in against the 'real' ESTA site, confirmed your ESTA was OK and attempted to charge you for the privilege.

Just returned from US and went through the whole on-line form filling in only to be told on the plane that JFK don't accept them and had to fill green form in on the plane.

I've been told thay all airports require both the old green form and the new one for the whole of 2009, can anyone confirm this, please?

Presume delays will still be just as bad?

No, each airport is following its own timetable. When their systems are up and running properly, each airport can start accepting ESTA without the need for a green waiver form (though I suppose until they're all doing it they will all continue to accept just the waiver from people who don't yet have an ESTA). I believe some airports are already trialling entry without green form on some days for those whose ESTA appears on their computer screens when they scan passports, though I don't know how widespread this is yet. It would be wise, for the moment at least, to continue to do both, though it should be noted that they will only ever use one, never both (they'll just disregard whichever they don't wish to use).

Delays? What do you think?
    (Trick - use CLT/PHL rather than JFK/ORD...)

I would go by the flight number, if it's DL (Delta) or NW (Northwest)

There is usually a prefix. Can you go onto the website and check it?
