On top of that another £2k for the boiler and other fitting materials - total £4K. The RRP of the boiler is £1100 and I'm sure there are discounts off of this. On the whole the bloke is looking to rip me off.

Hiya, no only two quotes so far. The boiler is a Vaillant 937 - you can get them on the inernet for £1100 inc VAT. Infact, you can get the boiler, 7 Radiators, Copper piping for whole house and fittings for £1500 inc VAT. I probably don't even need a boiler that powerful either.
I hate the fact that people walk into the house and I can't help thinking that because you are a woman that they would try and pull the wool over your eyes. I've had it happen when taking the car into the garage too.
I may even just put up with the back boiler - nothing wrong with it, just get fed up with waiting for the hot water to fill up again after my son has drained it!
Thanks everyone for your help.0 -
Good morning: As a woman, I can appreciate what you are saying:it is equally frustrating to see other women posting on this forum (and others) using the 'I'm just a dumb blonde/silly girly' routine to excuse ignorance...this forum and the internet as a whole can provide a wealth of information if used effectively.
My OH treats male and female clients in the same manner i.e. gives them a fair price in a full specification quotation, appropriate advice and suggestions for where to get further info eg. EST website. I am familar with the all-in CH package to which you are referring...you need to look at the detail eg. efficiency band rating of the boiler, additional costs for flueing/controls/pipe insulation/copper fittings/ quality TRVs/sundries, available radiator sizes, Boiler Buddy/Magnaclean, scale inhibitor, costs associated with a powerfush, Gas Work Notification etc.
Knowledge is power: do your research and decide what you want. If your BBU is functioning and you don't plan to extend your property/add bathrooms, then save your money and more CORGIs' time.

If your only problem is running out of hot water then why not address this issue instead of getting people round to quote for take out a back boiler and converting to a combi?
Who is pulling the wool over your eyes? do BG have a separate pricing policy for females?
Canuckleheads estimate of 4-5 days is accurate although you seem to prefer 1.5 days as your benchmark. IMO anything less than 4 man-days will be a very poor job indeed and this is assuming that it is fairly straightforward to get an adequate gas supply into your loft. A 937 uses a lot of gas in hot water mode and you would be very disappointed if it didn't perform as expected.
Anyway, what do you think is a fair price for the job? or better yet, why not get some advice on solving your hot water needs.0 -
My boyfriend is a "Heating engineer" he always corrects me if i call him a plumber or gas fitter haha. Make sure the boiler is worcester because these last the longest! Sometimes if you buy cheap boilers it seems better the beginning but they often are extremely hard to get the part if it breaks down! which is usually a regular occurance!!!!!!0

Unfortunately, a Vaillant 937 can never become a Worcester however hard it tries - some sort of legal red tape I expect.0 -

I'm just a secretary, not a rocket scientist but I do think £2000 purley for 3 days labour is excessive. I don't know what a fair price is - I'm still trying to work that out.
I am doing a loft conversion - with additional bathroom - I really don't think I'm wasting any Corgi engineers time.
Thank you to all who have given me positive comments.0 -

Since you disagree with everyones prices and don't seem to acknowledge that there are additional material costs apart from the box that goes on the wall, you clearly are.
If you have such faith in BG, then use them. The salesman clearly knows what he is talking about and I doubt if anyone else could match them for value for money.0 -

Sorry - I really don't know where you are coming from. I do acknowledge other costs - he wants an additional £2000 for the other costs. £4k in total.0
