Can i retain my number with cashback offer

Check with the retailer before you order. Most will allow you to port in a number and still get the cashback, but there are some differences between companies.
If they do allow you to port in, make sure you have this in writing.0 -
I do this every year - most will let you retain your number as long as you are changing provider. You need to ask and get a "Porting Authorisation Code" or "PAC" from your current provider.

One notable exception is transferring to Vodafone or O2 via Phones4U (inc. Mobiles2YourDoor).0

If I were you I'd do more than worry about porting your number. Do your research starting with my guide:-

is it possible to port your number from a contract to a payg on another network? how long before you can port your number out again? 1 month? 2 months?0
-
Yes.
You can port again as soon as the first one has completed.0 -
is it best to port to a payg sim or a pay monthly sim? any recommendations of best networks to port in and out of? virgin? orange? 3?0
-
anyone have any recommendations for the above?0
-
Obviously port to PAYG - otherwise you'll have a notice period at the very least (and a minimum contract term at the worst).
Orange will insist that they absolutely must post you the PAC and can't give it to you over the phone, so steer clear of them. I haven't tried any PAYG migrations between other networks, but I'd say probably T-Mobile or O2 since they've been OK for contract migrations.
The time frame for actually doing the port is the same across all networks (2 days).0
