the OP seems to be very quite-dont think she got the responce she wanted. it seems that in our society at the moment if anything illness, accidents ect happen regardless of the cause someone needs to be at fault and someone needs to take the blame. sometimes sh*t happens. get over it and move on.
sorry to be bluntsusiesue

Sunday evening was probably one of the worst days of my life; I had taken the recommended dosage of both the nurofen and penicillin tablets. I was shivering like I was sat in a freezer one moment and the next; I was warm and sweating like a pig. I was dizzy and had a blackout after going to the toilet, I could have easily fallen down the stairs it wasn't for my family.
It is quite normal when you have a temperature to feel like this. Temperatures come with infections and can be treated with ibuprofen and paracetamol as you need to control the temp as well as the infection. Which would have been controlled (hopefully) by the antibiotics. The on call Dr hasn't done anything wrong here.
BTW- how long did you spend at medical school to know what was wrong with your prescription?Debt: 16/04/2007:TOTAL DEBT [strike]£92727.75[/strike] £49395.47:eek:   £43332.28 repaid 100.77% of £43000 target.MFiT T2: Debt [STRIKE]£52856.59[/STRIKE] £6316.14 £46540.45 repaid 101.17% of £46000 target.2013 Target: completely clear my [STRIKE]£6316.14[/STRIKE] £0 mortgage debt. £6316.14 100% repaid.0 -
I can't help noticing that although the OP was semi conscious on Sunday night and Monday morning and completely unconscious once the GP has only written them up for blood tests..................
....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

To be honest, if treating tonsillitis that could be Glandular Fever, penicillin is the right drug to use (unless you are allergic to it!) as ampicillin and amoxycillin can cause a rash if you have EBV.
Indeedy! When I first presented with the symptoms of what turned out to be Glandular Fever, the GP prescribed Amoxycillin for a suspected bacterial infection. I then had to re-present myself a couple of days later with the original symptoms plus a galloping rash and so had a blood sample taken to confirm GF! A very fetching rash it was too!0 -
I had a problem with the out of hours GP service. I was examined and diagnosed by a nurse practitioner. I told him I was allergic to penicillin and he wrote it on my notes. He diagnosed a water infection and went to get a prescription from the GP. He came back with one for Amoxiclav.
I took it to the chemists, came home and took one dose. I can't remember anything else as I collapsed and went into anaphylactic shock. Husband put me in the recovery position and read the information leaflet and realised that Amoxiclav is a penicillin based antibiotic. He dialled 999.
I was taken to A&E by ambulance. I was treated and I came round. I was kept in for a few hours observation before they let me go home. I was weak for a couple of days, but I recovered.
During this time the GP who wrote the prescription had been told what had happened and he came over and apologised. He said the nurse had not told him of my allergy and he didn't notice it on the form.
I wrote a letter of complaint to the PCT. I recieved a letter back again apologising for the incident. They said that all the nurses had been given refresher training on drug allergies, and that steps had been taken to make sure things were checked before drugs were given out to people. I was happy that this won't happen again, so I left it at that.
I would contact your PCT and make a complaint and let them investigate. Hopefully you will get an apology if a mistake has been made, and procedures will be put in place to stop it happening again. Here I go again on my own....0 -
He came back with one for Amoxiclav.
Just for your future reference it's coamoxiclav also called Augmentin. HTH and stops any future reaction. What an awful thing to happen though.Debt: 16/04/2007:TOTAL DEBT [strike]£92727.75[/strike] £49395.47:eek:   £43332.28 repaid 100.77% of £43000 target.MFiT T2: Debt [STRIKE]£52856.59[/STRIKE] £6316.14 £46540.45 repaid 101.17% of £46000 target.2013 Target: completely clear my [STRIKE]£6316.14[/STRIKE] £0 mortgage debt. £6316.14 100% repaid.0 -

C'mon that's not fair. We're all used to following guidelines on home medications, they are there for a reason. If anyone told me to overdose I would triple check and ask for the dose to be explained.
Doctors aren't perfect. If you take everything as read you may just find yourself in trouble one day.:wall:0 -

You might check but apparently neither the OP nor the family did......................I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

That was what I was about to say.
I if they want to make a complaint then fine. But it seems they did not suffer lasting damage from it and they want money. For what.
They have not lost the use of a limb or can't work any longer because of it.

I agree that the OP has gone quiet, and I suspect that is down to a lack of support from posters. Which I agree with....
About 2 months ago, I was really uncomfortable (won't go into too much detail, family forum) so went to see the locum, who said "well, you were pregnant........now you're in the middle of losing it. Come back if you don't stop in 3 days"
I cried and cried but did not for one minute think about "financial compensation" Be gald you're alive!!0
