Hello. We are having a go at some homemade wines and we need muslin. Immediately thought of baby muslin squares but cannot get anywhere. Any suggestions as to where I could find or what I could use instead. (This will be to remove the fruit after the first fermentation so filter papers not any good at this stage).
Thank you.
Thank you.

I don't know where you are based ... but I get my muslin from the habidashery department in Boyes in York. You can buy it off the roll at £2.30 per metre. I think you'll also find it anywhere that sells curtain fabric. For a while it was quite fashionable to drape muslin in windows instead of nets. I ask for butter muslin.Enjoying an MSE OS life0

Hello. I use muslin instead of cotton wall buds to take my make up off. (Better for my pocket and the environment!). I had trouble finding them a first, but actually got them from a really big Boots in my local town. They were in the baby department. They were doing buy four, get one free! Huge cloths, so have kept two for myself! The others are going in my mum's birthday box!
Hope that helps.

Thank you all. Should have looked in all these places. Will go to town tomorrow and have a look at the prices in all mentioned - going to be a rainy day so might as well go to the shops for an hour.0

Can I ask, what wine are you brewing? I've been making wine for many years, and never used muslin to strain the first racking.

John Lewis sells them - I saw them yesterday in the kitchen dept, by the wine / jam making stuff. They also sell the big muslin squares for babies in their nursery dept.0

Or better still go to a builders suppiers and buy a muslin dust sheet which will be big enough to strain the entire crop of apples from an orchard for a fraction of the price, monster sized muslin for next to nothing.Four guns yet only one trigger prepare for a volley.Together we can make a difference.0
