Band charges

in Credit cards
I've got a quick question.
I have received a letter this morning saying that Barclays has charged me £30 because I went £18 overdraft. Can they charge that much? Must say it’s a debit card and my account is divided into 2 subaccounts – one where I pay out from and where I only keep couple of hundreds and the other where I just keep bigger sum – just in case the card gets stolen they won’t be able to take all my money, so the bank can see that I have couple of thousands of my own money in my reserved subaccount. Why did they still charge me? Can I argue that?
Hope it makes sense

If your debit card was fraudulently used and caused your account to go overdrawn then you're NOT liable for any charges including the amount stolen from your account.
Ring Barclays.0 -

Ring Barclays.
No,no I went overdraft myself just didn't realise that I forgot to top up my balance from the reserved account0 -
Have you tried calling Barclays and explaining that it was a genuine mistake? If it is the first time this has happened and they can se the money is there, it is worth trying to see if they will refund the charge for you.0

That what I thought as well if they can see that I have got money on my account why did they still charge me?!0 -
You went overdrawn on your account so YES they can charge you. It doesn't matter that you had the money in another account ! Barclays had no way of knowing you were going to move some of it.
Why not set up a monthly Standing Order to transfer the funds. That way you won't have to remember again and you won't get charged again.
PS. This forum is for Credit Cards. There is a seperate forum for Current Bank accounts.0 -

You might be lucky and they'll waive the charge for you if it's your first time.0

In future you ought to try being less sarcastic, my PS was put there merely to advise you that there is another forum which might give you better results in your question being answered !!!0 -

Must have been very subtle sarcasm as I didn't notice it.0 -

There was no sarcasm here IMO and your response isn't very pleasant.
