Hi everyone,
I am selling an Iphone on Ebay. This evening a guy contacted me and said he wanted to purchase it. I said that cash on collection is fine in the ad. First of all he asked it I could come and meet him near where he lives which isn't actually that far around 2 miles away, but I still said no!! He asked what time was convienient for him to come and collect it tomorrow. I said 7:30pm but he wanted to meet me earlier near where I work. I arranged to do this. I have just got a checkout email that states the name and address of the buyer. It comes up with a female name on the email, but the address is in the town where he stated he lives. I texted him to ask about why the account comes up with a female name, and he called me back to say that the account is in his wifes name. He did the checkout within 2 minutes of me talking to him. My question is, should I go through with this transaction? He sounds pretty trustworthy on the phone. My mum has mentioned that perhaps it is not safe to conduct the transaction on the street. Do you think I should go ahead, or insist that he comes to my place to collect it?
Also, if it turns out he has hijacked someone else's account, would there be any comeback on me?

Was the transaction actually completed on ebay or did he say he would buy the item if you withdrew it from sale? What feedback does the buyer have??0

I certainly wouldn't do any transaction on a street. Why can't you ask him to do a bank transfer instead and then send the phone?0

I'd definitely ask him to come to your place and make sure someone else is in when he turns up too! Over the years of buying and selling various bits and bobs, I've only ever had one transaction in a public place and that was with a husband of a woman I knew from work.
I think it's the safest bet. iPhones and the like are very sought after on eBay and personally I don't think you can be too careful. But then, it's up to you - if you're not comfortable then don't do it, it's not like you won't be able to sell your iPhone to someone else is it? :rolleyes:0 -
You obviously have some doubt and concern over this guy despite the trustworthy voice, don't go on your own and don't have him come round when you're alone. Whatever your concerns or your mums ensure that you're safe the iphones not worth it.0

The item was bought on Ebay, using Buy It Now. I guess the thing that got me worried is the fact that the account has his wifes name on it. The buyer has a 99.6 rating with over 274 sales.0 -
Should not be a problem then. I'd be safe with meeting that guy, although there are no guarantee's with life. Make sure he pays cash and take someone with you to be safe.0

I guess someone wouldn't go through the motions of hacking someones account if they were going to pay by cash would they? Would they normally sell non existent items if they were a hacker?0
-
It depends. They can arrange to meet you and then rob you, but most people are genuine. I have met quite a few people who I have sold to and had no problems0

He wants to meet me at a busy underground station in London. He also did say that he wants to have a look in the box after he has given me the cash. I will sleep on it, and make a final decision tomorrow morning.0

That sounds absolutely fine. I'd be happy going with that as long as he gives you the money before you give him the box0
