Using second hand packaging material.

I ask this question as it springs from another thread on another board here.

I re-use my jiffy bags to send off e-bay items. But always over wrap in a new envelope or brown paper as I was under the impression right or wrongly that that the packaging material was suppose to be new.

I have had a quick look around e-bay help and that is about as much use a chocolate fireguard.

Any one. I have no idea where I picked this impression from.

I am hppy to know that I wrong. And will then freely re-use my jiffy bags with out the over wrap.

Many thanks in advance.

Yours

Calley

Why should it have to be new as long as it does the job?

I reuse/recycle packaging as much as possible although I usually stick a new label on for the address. Any holes/defects can be covered with lots of brown tape and recycling benefits the environment;-))

I always always use second hand packing. I get my family to save any padded envelopes. I also state this in my auctions, along with how this helps me keep p+P down. No complaints yet. I just go mad with the parcel tape tomake sure!

A while back I received a cardigan bought from ebay sent in a M & S bag, just with an address label stuck on with tape! I'm not that bad but I do reuse all my packaging. I always keep jiffy bags from things I have bought on ebay and then use them for sending things I sell on ebay! Lots of brown tape and a new printed address label come into play.

NOW - not sure, due to boyfriend going back to uni for masters and now pgce. Worth it in the long run!

  • I received a laptop once in a thin cardboard box that was barely big enough to hold the laptop - and no packaging whatsoever. The laptop didn't stand a chance, and the seller stated that he'd done it loads of times and never had a problem! I received two more in single jiffy bags that barely survived Standard Parcel delivery.

I always try and reuse packaging where possible - I've never had a complaint about it.

I always try to re-use packaging when even possible.
It saves on the cost to the buyer.

I think Amazon marketplace say packaging should be new (it certainly used to, but I don't know if it still does), but I've not seen anything on ebay. I send all my Amazon marketplace in used packaging and no one ever complains. As long as it's packaged well I can't see anyone complaining about whether the jiffy bag is new or not.

    Hi

We always try and re-use packaging if we can. And I also save all boxes as they might come in handy for eBay items etc.

This is slightly off the subject, but it could be good advice for the future:-
We just had an unfortunate issue with a person who bought a 'plastic' smoothie maker from us... It was only used once, so we put it up for sale. It went in its original box and it had arrived in a mould in the bottom of the box for the item to sit in securely, and we topped it with bubble wrap, (again that was recycled). Well this person claimed that the smoothie maker was smashed, with 'no' damage to the box. Hardly likely as it was plastic and in its own box. So I would advice people to put on their ad that they are not liable for damage sustained in transit, or to get postal insurance (?)
