Best Banks for Customer Service

Does anyone know which Banks have a record of good customer service?
I'm currently fed up with A&L after being charged £55 this month in fees. My own fault, but they won't give me more than £100 overdraft, as they know this is a moneyspinner. Any other accounts where they look after you a bit more? I have lots of direct debits so it's hard to keep track of when money is about to come out.
Thanks!

I am with The Co-operative Bank and consider their customer service to be acceptable......0 -
Some things go out fortnightly, some quarterly and some monthly- I find it hard to keep track anyway-0

I've been with NatWest, Barclays, Lloyds TSB, Alliance and Leicester and HSBC, and I've found the best service to have come from HSBC - simply flawless. A&L aren't bad, Barclays' phone banking is terrible (branch service is superb), Lloyds TSB was quite bad and NatWest was just meh.0

the fact that you're being charged or the fact that you cannot get the o/d has nothing to do with customer service.
i think this poll should be based on wether the ppl in the branch are helpful and deliver the service you would expect (that does not mean giving you all the products you request)0 -
I have held my main account with First Direct for about 18 years now, all DD and wages paid into/out of this account, never had reason to complain that I can remember, they always help and seem very knowledgable so they get my recommendation.0

I am with Coop and quiet happy with there customer services. If your finding it hard to be organised with your finances why not buy some accounting software like Microsoft Money? Its a good price on Amazon and if you invest the time in putting in all your direct debits etc and your income it is pretty good. Keeps me on the straight and narrow.0

If your outgoings are more than your incomings you will never find a bank which likes you - been there done that!
Invest £100 in a cheap electronic organiser then all your dd dates can be entered onto the days before they are due, coupled with an online account you should have no problems.0 -
Anyone who does not answer the phone and say " Hello my name is goopter"0

I'm with Halifax and their online banking and customer service has been exemplary so far.0

What you actually need is a bank that tells you when your next DD is going to put you into the red about a week before it happens.
If it exists, it probably makes a monthly charge at least equal to your overdraft charges, so the best thing would be to do what I do: keep a spreadsheet and plan ahead.0
