Best Banks for Customer Service

  • I've been with natwest, since my first reserve account when I was much much younger than I am now(!)

I have to say overall, I've always been impressed with their customer service, issues generally get resolved quickly, although I havent really had to raise any issues with them - apart from them authorising a cancelled direct debit 6 months after I cancelled the DD! They were quick to respond though and the issue was resolved..

I also think that their online banking is a very good platform from which to manage your accounts. Since I got my mortgage, almost two years ago, I check my accounts daily and its nice to see a "real time" balance..

Dont get me wrong, they're not perfect by any stretch of the imagination - but I have to register my approval! :)
  • Thanks for the tips guys-

OK some of you have picked me up on the customer service aspect- I guess I should have used some other term- perhaps something like 'looking for a better moneysaving solution'- I was in a mood due to the recent charges.

In my defence I do find A&L are very slow to credit moneys to your account- it has taken up to 8 days in the past and sometimes that makes keeping track a bit less straightforward. I guess that's what I meant when I used the term customer service. Perhaps I meant efficiency, visibility of outgoings, or some ratio of speed of electronic transfer to propensity to levy charges. I felt I had been suckered in by the good rates and was interested in finding out more about your qualitative aspects of the banking experience. These things are harder to identify without personal experience.

I think I will have to use a combination of greater vigilance and perhaps switch to one of the options you guys have recommended- cheers

Ah, I wondered what 'Goopter' was. But I think you mean 'Gupta'!

The name 'Gupte' came into popular usage at the time of the well known ITV comedy series 'Only When I Laugh' which featured a male nurse called Gupte.
Gupta is an alternative spelling of Gupte.:D

I've found First Direct to be absolutely fantastic; I moved to them for the £100, but refuse to leave for the other £100 as I'm loving the fact that a real person picks up the phone and speaks in a cheery voice and falls over themselves to help me.

I can't fault them, and I'm picky as hell. :D

' <-- See that? It's called an apostrophe. It does not mean "hey, look out, here comes an S".
