MAC Code Question

I have just moved into a new flat on Friday 28th March and had called BT (my current net supplier) to cancel my broadband contract on Sunday 23rd March as I wanted to switch to O2 in my new flat.
I was out of contract as I signed up in Nov 2006, but they said I would need to give them 30 days notice and would be charged for this plus a £6 admin fee, is this normal?
Anyway onto my main point, do I need to get a MAC code even though I have cancelled my internet with BT and want to start afresh with O2? I currently have no internet in my new flat.

You don't need a MAC from BT make sure they cancel and get written proof and yes the 30 days notice is standard practice but the £6.0 admin fee is a new on me, i left BT ADSL Broadband (Migrated) late Dec 2007 and did not get charged the admin fee.0

I just asked my MAC from Bt and she gave it with no problem. There was no mention of 30 days notice or fee, I was out of contract on the 1st April. I think, she has cancelled the broadband payment as well but has assure me I will not get disconnected until sky activates my bb. Hope this helps.0

30 days notice see T&C's
http://www.productsandservices.bt.com/consumerProducts/dynamicmodules/pagecontentfooter/pageContentFooterPopup.jsp?pagecontentfooter_popupid=13408If you want to end your agreement, you may do so by giving us 30 days notice unless paragraphs 9 or 10 of these service terms apply.0 -
MACs are used for "seamless" transition between isps on the same line. As malamute says, greyhound31 doesn't need a MAC (and couldn't do anything with it now).0

They do charge this as a "cease" fee to customers who cancel and don't migrate to another adsl service.
So it's really a fine for giving up on adsl and going to llu.
(They will waive it if you are cancelling because of a house move, and the new house cannot get bt broadband service).0
