I haven't read all of this (you are popular!), but work in CAB as well and thought I'd say good luck!

I joined as a volunteer five and a half years ago, got a job as an admin worker after a year, then a paid general adviser and then worked as a debt adviser under the LSC contract and now work under FIF. I hope you're enjoying your time there and not getting too fed up with RL1 (RL2 is a bit better!)! I think now is a really good time to get into debt advice, there's a lot of interest in it and lots of funding going round, and it's going to be really exciting when all the new debt remedies come in.
