I also purchased a new Vaio about a month ago. I uninstalled Norton and use AVG anti-virus. It has Vista Premium installed and broadband runs quite fast. I do Microsoft Priority updates but not the others.
As it's about a month old I ran Scan Disc and Defrag. I also removed all Restore points except the last one. It's amazing how much disc space this frees up.
Good luck0 -
cheers - I've been trying ot remember the startup code for months!Vista Service pack 1 out now on windows updates ,will speed up a bit.
Go to run command or search run open run type MSCONFIG
go to start-up and un tick programs not required to run at startup . If not sure either google the startup item or dont turn off.
To get a really fast laptop requires Win XP service pack 3 not vista i am afraid .
jjeThe atmosphere is currently filled with hypocrisy so thick that it could be sliced, wrapped, and sold in supermarkets for a decent price and labeled, 'Wholegrain Left-Wing, Middle-Class, Politically-Correct Organic Hypocrisy'.0 -

B you're using Vista - I am but will keep it on, as I bought the laptop with vista installed, i don't have any disc drivers, so wouldn't want to go back to xp as i wouldn't have anyway of going back to vista.
C there's probably loads of other preinstalled junk from Sony on there hogging resources - your right, there's plenty of sony stuff on but i don't know what would be worth keeping and what wouldn't, i suppose I can run task manager to check if anythings draining resourses.0
