  • Tell me about it.. I managed to secure a job last weekend, but I had postponed that job a number of times previously because of rain. I had one location from a paddock and because of the rain the 'quadpod' that supports the mast was beginning to sink into the ground on one side whilst the mast was up at about 40(ish) feet, it was guyed up too, but it still made me feel uncomfortable that it could have toppled.

Hope next year brings long dry and sunny days. There's hoping!!!
  • What is the problem with Vista?

I have a Vista laptop I planned to use as a back up, unfortunately my mast cam is a canon pro Shot 1 for which canon don`t have vista drivers. i had planned to change the camera just so i could use it on either laptop (main laptop runs XP).

Would I be better getting XP put on the back up laptop?
I am happy with the Pro Shot 1, but would rather have a back up laptop, just in case.

    Thanks
  • I use Breeze Systems software to control my Canon G9 and although it states on their website that there is compatibility with Vista it does not work in my case that well. The software runs, but it disconnects and reconnects to the camera all the time. Everytime it disconnects I lose my settings which is very annoying. I then sometimes get the liveview freezing. However, with my XP loaded laptop I have no problems at all. The downside I have is that the XP machine has absolutely no battery life and therefore I can only use that machine when the mast is on the car or closeby when I have an inverter running it.
  • Thanks for that.

Easiest answer for me then is to put XP on the back up laptop and stick with the same camera.

The new laptop with decent battery life was built with Vista in mind I believe. So it is missing the drivers required for XP. Need to look into it more

You could try posting your problems on the Techie board (or looking to see if someone's already had an answer).

Personally I always add a mental expletive to the word 'Vista': we have one Vista laptop at work and it is a complete and utter nightmare getting it to speak to anything else in the building.
