    Good info, thanks everyone.

For the record if you ever have a Direct Debit that leaves your account and the details have not been advised to you, ie they've changed the amount or date, then you can claim it back from your bank under the Direct Debit Guarantee. There's nothing the beneficiary can do to prevent this.

Yes but most direct debits say 'variable amounts on unspecified dates' in my experience.

Not surprised that Admiral also run Elephant, they certainly have memories like them. Nearly 20 years ago I had accident that was my fault whislt insured by them. Even now when I put my details into a price comparison site to check renewal prices, Admiral always come out the most expensive by a long long way! Never forgive never forget!

Just to put some balance on here. I and my son have Elephant policies (same company as Admiral). I have had no problems paying (I pay full amount up front), had no problems declining 'extras', no problems cancelling renewal (I did inform them in writing that I did not wish to renew), my son had no problem with an at fault claim, I received a refund for taking a young driver off the policy with no problem. All the documents are sent out quickly and are generally correct. The only downside is Albany Assistance who don't assist at all; total rubbish. Other than that Elephant aren't bad for a cheap insurer and good for young drivers (friend of mine save d £2000 with Elephant compared to his existing insurer when adding his daughter to the policy). Hope this helps add some perspective.
I have to say I've had similar good experience. I and my mother are on an Admiral multicar policy and I've never really had cause to complain.

Every car I've owned since 1997 (never fewer than 2 at a time) has been insured with an Admiral group company. I've had no problems through renewals, or claims, and they're always the lowest quote for me (female, mid 30s, performance cars). I did work for them for a year or so in the late 90s but stay with them now through choice.

Admiral will certainly be getting my money when it's time to insure - with every other insurer I've got quotes off the cheapest was £900 but with Admiral £330.

At the end of the day, you'll never find a totally 100% every customer satisfied company...

The internet is great for people complaining..

"To the internet.. I need to complain about something!"

  • Just saw this thread as I'm having problems with Admiral...

In reply to 76Rosie, you probably know by now that Diamond are part of the dreaded Admiral group anyway!!

(See list of other names they use at the admiral group co uk website. They won't let me post a link here)

    Good luck
  • Having stumbled upon this thread, I had to add my story.

In November 2010 a car drove into me, and I don't know how I restrained myself as he tore the front of my 7 series BMW off. I got onto Admiral, and to my shock found out I was only insured 3rd party. It was a mistake, probably going back to a comparison website, and me not checking that the cover was incorrect. Anyway...

Admiral put me onto a solicitors firm, and TO THIS DAY I am still waiting for them to fix my car. Naturally all insurance companies advise their customers not to admit liability, which is why this fiasco will eventually have to go to court.

My car still isn't fixed, and to be honest isn't properly roadworthy, but at over £2k for the repair, I am not going to fork out for this myself.

Admiral have nothing to do with it now, but the service as a whole was completely inadequate, not fit for purpose, and I fell like the victim in a scam.

Shame on you Admiral for not seeing your part of this through.
