hi all in the op it does say that they are not sending out until sept/oct and it may take a year for all sets to be delivered
so why are people saying its a scam?
i am going to email them and wait for a response before i say its a scam:D
well have just emailed them and will await a response, would be a great shame if this was a scam and many kids would miss out but as i said will await a reply then post.0 -
hi all as promised here is a reply to the email i sent regarding the free chess sets
Thank you for your email. Can you tell me the name of your school and give
me their postcode, so I can check to see if they are already on our list. I
did send an email out on the 19th August updating everyone and letting them
know that they are on the list, however we still have a few hundred schools
to input, but they will all receive a confirmation email once they are on
the list.
I can assure you that this is not a scam, however please note that we are a
small office dealing with a large amount of requests, as well as our usual
workload. Please also note that the offer is currently only available to
schools in England, not home education
i hope this answers peoples questions, and if you want your own reply you can email them from the address in the op:D
it is worth contacting them as they dont seem to have my schools down on their list, and so i had to give details again0 -
When I spoke to the guy back in July (see my previous post) he said that it will take from Sept and then probably up to a year to send them all out. Those Home Edders who have applied fear not....he was very up for supplying them to groups and hopes at the end of the year there will be extra recyclable materials in order to produce some for the latter.
Anyway that's what he said to me in July....don't know if this has changed or if he was on the level...just thought I would feedback what he said!!Infamy! Infamy! They've all got it in for me!

Hi! I'm not sure...he seemed very plausable and just has been asked to head up organising the distribution of the sets. I think it is a charity.....anyway it is worth a ring? I really don't know any more than that!Infamy! Infamy! They've all got it in for me!

There is a delay in the manufacture of the free chess sets. This is because one of the three tools that Holloid use for making the pieces was damaged. They are now repairing it and making a modification to improve the rate of production. They have two further tools in China for the tiles and board, which will be shipped soon but will require about 5-6 weeks before they become available.
Holloid are arranging some production slots to make sets of pieces as soon as they can but they have to put the welfare of the company and staff ahead of this project. They have undertaken to do their best to make as many sets as they can in the shortest possible time. This is costing Holloid, and indeed their MD personally, considerable sums of money.
A statement on deliveries will be released when the production situation is clear.
The ECF will shortly release details of its support package for schools. This will include:
• Teaching DVD
• Copies of the ECF Guide To Chess
• Chess in the Classroom
• Information regarding Certificate of Merit
• “The Right Move” – Monthly magazine circulated by e-mail, aimed at young players. It includes puzzles that can be downloaded for solving in the school club and details of coming events and courses.
• Assistant Coach / ECF Membership
• Other items TBC
Further status reports will appear on www.englishchess.org.uk
