VW should be able to help if it is a factory fit stereo - they will probably charge you though (unless you are an attractive young girl (boy ?) who can charm them).
Failing that your local acr stereo place should be able to help you or point you to somebody who can. Secondhand stereo dealers often do re-coding - check your local papers for ads.

It's normally recorded in the handbook - you got this in a drawer somewhere? Dunno about VW, but Ford supply seperate car and radio handbooks.
  • No i have searched all my paperwork and the little card bit that had the number on is missing. The car is 3 years old and i have only had it since December.

as your car is only 3yrs old, if you have the service history for the car, and know which dealership it was bought from new, they should have the radio code on their files

When I realised I hadn't got a radio code after my battery was disconnected I looked up the last owner in the phone book and luckily his name was there & he gave me the code. Try to contact whoever you got the car from.

Yeah, if you ring VW and supply them with your car details they will give you it.
  • Posting this on behalf of my brother, who is a trained ICE installer..............

If memory serves me correctly, this can be bypassed. Ensure that the radio is off, with the key out of the ignition, put the key in and turn it to full on position, without starting the car. Now press the power button for the radio, the radio should flash "safe" for a few seconds, then come on. If this does not work, chances are the mobile phone kit installer has tried to incorrectly input the security code on several occasions. Volkswagen gamma units should retain in memory the car that they were fitted to originally. I used to install phone kits so this isn't an old wives tale! If my method does not work, you will have to have your stereo unlocked, cheapest place for this is an after market decoding service. You can go to Volkswagen for the code, but the aftermarket service should be able to provide this. Expect to pay £20 - £25 including stereo removal and installation fees.

If the problem persists have the phonekit wiring checked incase the installer has changed the wiring configuration. (Yes, mobile phone kits are usually wired into radios!)

If you have a VW you have nothing to worry about at all.

Just take the car into any Volkswagen dealer, and talk to the service department. (You may need to take some ID to prove you own the car)

They will then open up the radio, get some code from it that they can then type into a computer, and then magically they will get you your radio code.

I was in this exact situation with my Audi A8 (It happened because the battery was changed), last weekend, and on monday afernoon, I was given the code over the phone.

And it didn't cost me a penny.

I hope this is of some help to you.

    Regards.
