You might want to speak to your solicitor and estate agent. They may have a note of the meter reading. A long shot, but worth a try?

You would think it was quite straight forward wouldn't you. Everytime BG has read my Mums meter they have got it wrong. It is a 2 rate meter( charged at single rate) and they only ever read one rate and then don't know where to apply the readings on the bill.

hope op negotiates a reasonable amount.

oh dear, i know what you mean, i worked on the business side of BG and some of the meters were a nightmare as they had several different rates on one meter and it always managed to be the accounts that i dealt with that the meter readers messed up :D . the readers are supposed to receive training but i think that quite a few of them fall through that net  !

just got of the phone to the good people at n power. they where surprisingly helpfull. The meter reading was actualy '0400612'. he said this doesnt ring true and woud look further into it. he came back saying the last meter reading was in march '07 and was in the 2000 range and said he thinks i may be reading the wrong meter or there is a fault, but in his words there is no way i could use that much gas in such a short space of time. he has arranged for an N Power engineer to visit and check the meter is right and take a reading then i guess i will go from there. the dude is coming on the 21st of april so i wil continue paying my gas bill as an act of good measure as so far i cant fault them. they have been helpfull. ill keep you updated.

    thanks for all the posts.

That's great news. Please keep us updated on progress.

NPower, like all successful large companies, get a lot of stick. It is nice to hear of a satisfied customer.

hi people little update for you RE this problem.

Npower where booked into come to have a look at the meter today, the letter said "after 8am" i waited in and at 1pm called them up and they said they will be there and was booked in from 8am till 1pm but i should allow for traffic and call outs, fair enough i had taken the day off work. 3:30 came and i called again to be told that the previous woman i spoke to was wrong for telling me 8 till 1 as the appointment had been re booked for the 12th of may and a letter had been sent on the 25th of april, which was friday, how can they expect me to have known? that is not enough time i still havnt had the letter today, they didnt seem to bothered, i have lost over 200 pound due to not going to work today, if the engineer would have bothered to turn in i would not have been bothered in the slightest as i had expected to be off work all day but the fact he was never gonna show has wound me up a treat and i was wondering if anyone had any advice RE complaints procedure, who to address a letter to as i find emails just get automated responces with big corperate companies.

    many thanks in advance

    Hi,

sorry to hear about them messing you about.

i agree with the emailing, it takes forever to get a reply.

How about calling them and asking about the best way to make a complaint. 9 times out of 10 they will escalate the call to a team manager (or someone similar) who should be able to offer some help or apology, as you say, there was no way their letter would have reached you today in time as they only sent it on friday!

If you dont get very far with them I always find that mentioning you will go to Ofgem will help a lot!!

I would personally ask them to reimburse you for your wasted day off because (IMHO) sending a letter on a Friday is not enough notice to cancel a appointment on (the following) Monday morning.

 I have a poll / discussion on Economy 7 / 10 off-peak usage (as a % or total) and ways to improve it but I'm not allowed to link to it so have a look on the gas/elec forum if you would like to vote or discuss.

fought i would update everyone on how this nonsence is now going, after being told that i cant posibly have used that much gas, im now being told that its my meter, my bill, pay up. i argued this and mentioned energy watch, and the woman on the phone put me on hold, and came back and said theres a conflict of meter readings that needed looking into as she has now found a meter reading for the property in the 3500 region from a year ago. my estimate was at 2000 odd. she is now looking into this and getting back to me, no doubt ill get that 1000 pound bill in the post soon, just waiting for it now as i have no confidence in npower anymore. there shocking. the good thing is they came and read my meter so no i can read it and see exactly how much im using on a week by week baisis to argue my case.
