You'll see it's a MAN unblocking the toilet, probably retrieving another one of those stupid toilet smellies that YOU women keep buying :rotfl:

Some great tips on this thread!!
im also moving out of parents home, i had to move back in with my 3 year old as i had a house fire and stupidly didnt have any insurance!!! So i lost everything. i just last week got offered a council flat but now i only have a washing machine and a bed to go in it! i'm only on Income Support so trying to furnish it with no budget is a nightmare! ill def be looking at papers....never thought of that before now! Also just signed up for hull's freecycle as we dont have one here.
We'll all get there in the end im sure..... hope you and your girlfriend enjoy your new home together0 -

Me and the miss are gonna take another trip to Ikea tonight! see if we can get some bargains!.

Oooh..asda are great for homeware too...especially when they have a sale on!
If you have a car try going to a local car boot..especially near the end.. as you can get some bargain funiture at low prices as the sellers won't want to lug it home.Membre Of Teh Misspleing Culb0 -

You had to buy these things though and most of them will last years with careful use.
I'm looking forward to going to Ikea, have never been before as the closest one is about 30 miles away I think... and had no reason to go before as was living in a furnished place!
When are you moving into your new flat? I've gotta wait for my new job start date before we can move... but they are dragging their feet doing a criminal record check, am starting to get fed up now, has already been a month, there is apparently a 'backlog' at the checking place... already looking around for other jobs, can't afford to wait another month!0 -
Should be moving into the flat around the 12th of sept but that really depends if its finished!! still being built!
We havnt even had a internal viewing! we just accepted (how bad can a brand new flat be?)
No idea on sizes or anything so we can only buy things that we know will fit like a bed! Hopefully i will get a viewing next weekthen i can measure up and buy a cooker! and sofa!

Wow, a brand new flat sounds great, at least you shouldn't have to do too much cleaning when you move in
Enjoy it, it's great fun, own independence, no parents nagging any more at you having friends over or wanting to watch DVD's at 2am...
Only downer is the household chores  but is not too bad with a flat as less floor space and no stairs to vacuum!!
Some good advice I read on another forum recently about moving house is to have an emergency box with kettle, tea, coffee, sugar, long life milk (or other drinks if you don't drink hot drinks like my pernickity boyfriend!), snacks, money for a takeaway (way too tired at the end of moving day to cook!) and the all important item - toilet rollLeave the box in the car until last or put it on the kitchen work surface, so you don't lose it.

Also make sure anything you have packed is well labelled in boxes. I thought my labelling was ok untill I had to look for something a few days after our move0

It is crazy how much it all adds up!
Same willl happen with the shock of extra expenses, like loo rolls, cleaning products,etc...these were all things I took for granted til I had to start geting them myself..hehe
shopping online at tesco or such using carefully sourced codes and bargains spooted on this site will save you a bit too..
Just a some thoughts..
we have a very small flat and so ended up chucking out our mop and bucket as it took up room and was useless..much easier and cleaner to get down on hands and knees with a sponge and floorspray!
It's also fasle economy to get a cheapie hoover..try to get a qualirty one in the sales. our first one barely did the job and broke within four months.
Argos is brilliant for cheap blinds and curtains...as is ikea!..
Never get your cleaning stuff/soap powder etc from the supermarket, the 'savers' chain is really good, as is our local poundshop.
and have you considered buying canvas wardrobes/ shelves etc from ikea, just to start off with? they are super cheap and do the job just as well!Membre Of Teh Misspleing Culb0
