Moving away from Mummy :(

a good idea is to look for secondhand ikea sofa to buy..then you can invest in some nice new covers to suit your tastes
when me and oh moved in together we had a battered old sofa bed from my mums house which i lovingly reupholstered, then a month later at xmas his mum bought us a brand new one...
shame my hard work went to waste!
i also got really shoddy tables, drawers etc from the local antiques market and sanded and painted them. most of these thoings we still have and love.
if you have the time you don't need to spend much to 'make a house a home'
use ikea for cutlery, crockery, pans etc too and if the carpets are dodgy they do great large rugs for as little as a tenner.Membre Of Teh Misspleing Culb0 -

A washine machine? Luxury (I'm in Monty Python mode now:D ).........I had to drag my washing along to a 'coin op' launderette when I moved into a bedsit..........
we 'ad a forty mile walk t't nearest lake. we'd scrub us clothes till fingers bled !

Hey flang, I bet it has started to sink in now...just how much your parents have done for you...bringing you up I mean !
I never appreciated what my mum did for me until I got a place of my own and the bills started to come in  even then she wanted to help me.
I hope everything works out ok for you two !!
In a few years time it will all change. You'll have money....but you'll be spending it on YOUR kids !! :j

<edit>forgot to say....can't help with the shopping bit, I married the england skipper when it comes to shopping....so no need for me go out !
but I can tell you...when it comes to buying a place in the future, always buy the worst house in the best street !
You'll only make money on property if you are willing to put the effort in.
Buy the worst house and fix it up. Sell it, buy the worst house etc etc.
I'm in my 3rd house, 220,000 with a 30,000 mortgage.
Worked for me ! :jIf only everything in life was as reliable...AS ME !!

I think you might be pulling our leg robowen;) . I was telling the truth about my experiences in my first (leaving the family) bedsit home.........and I could only afford a black & white television.
Anyway, be sure to tell your gran, nanna, aunties etc because usually they will be delighted to help out with bits and pieces for your new home.
Don't forget you'll need an iron and ironing board. Buy a cheap plant watering spray from Wilko, fill with water to tackle creased garments.......no need to buy an expensive steam iron then.
Make up a cheap sewing box with a plastic tub to hold needles, cotton reels (white & black as minimum colours), safety pins, scissors etc. Gran and nanna will definitely help you with these.;)10 Dec 2007 - Led Zeppelin - I was there. :j [/COLOR]:cool2: I wear my 50 (gold/red/white) blood donations pin badge with pride. Or just lie and tell currys comet would drliver for free and take 50 quid off if you got fridge/cooker and Telly from them.0 -
Well when I got married many moons ago, we bought the washing machine with money given to us, parents-in-law bought us our bed.
Didn't have a sofa/cooker/carpets (other than in the bedroom/bathroom) until a year after we got married!2014 Target;
