Thanks for your advice. I've applied online to H+L and have held it in cash so that gives me a little more time to consider how i should allocate my money. Could i potentially split some of the money into index tracking options and others into riskier investments? Is this a sensible thing to do?

As they say "Spread your money, spread your risk", quote by Lokolo made up on 18:47 on 5th April, very famous quote :p

But yes, you want to do it over a number of options so if one goes weeeee down the well, you have others to make an overall good impact. But obviously there is a limit, like putting £1 in each clearly is silly.

You can certainly do that if you want to. A little hint for you when you start looking in to things though...

HL have a minimum online purchase price of £1000 for most of their managed funds. However, they have no such limitations for switches. As such, if you want to put, say, £100 into 10 funds, you can pick one of the 10 that has the initial charge fully rebated (i.e. it doesn't cost you to invest) to put the full thousand into, then you can perform a switch from that fund into the other funds you want without worrying about those pesky minimum investments.

Well, I've spent the following so far:

£1000 on BlackRock UK Absolute Alpha Class P Acc

£1000 on INVESCO PERPETUAL Monthly Income Plus Accumulation Units

£1000 on Neptune Russia and Greater Russia (for a bit of drama)

    How does that sound?

i've got another £1000 to spend, and am looking for something fairly low risk that will help balance this portfolio. Any suggestions?

    Thanks,

    Pete
