hi everyone
i am living in spain and have 1 of the 2 phone ports on my linksy wrt54gp2 router configured for my sipgate account which works great most of the time
as i have another port to configure i would now like to get a sipgate equivalent supplier with a spanish number so i can call my girlfriends spanish mobile and make other calls to spanish land lines
does anyone know any such suppliers ( i had a quick search to see if sipgate had a spanish subsidiary but couldnt find anything. if they have and i am not looking hard enough please can someone send me a link)
thanks in advance

hi again everyone
i have a linksys wrt54gp2 that is a great box but for some reason has been discontinued and i am trying to get hold of another 1
i have found 2 advertised but they say they are "vonage" versions
can someone tell me what that means and can i use it or modify it to use it as i do my "normal" version ?
any help will be greatly appreciated
thanks in advance
Rob.
all the best things disappear if its good buy 2 more before they take them away0 -
Vonage is one of many VoIP providers, Vonage locked devices are just that, locked so you can only use Vonage. For most people Vonage isn't great value for money.
I've read that certain versions of Vonage locked devices have been capable of being unlocked. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0 -
thanks oh wise one (bextech) :-)
does anyone know if linksys have replaced the discontinued wrt54gp2?
all of my networking boxes are linksys and i would like to keep it that way for compatability reasons
as you seem to be knowledgeable in all things VOIP did you see my previous post regarding VOIP providers that provide spanish numbers
setting aside the fact that the best voip solution is too have 2 numbers 1 outgoing and 1 incoming as this is just too much effort for my girlfriend, i am using sipgate 1000 is this about as good as it gets for calling mainly uk landlines and sending 5.9p sms's
i have 2 bt calypso cordless phones that can send sms messages does anyone know if that function should work across VOIP and save me the 5.9p per text from sipgate (texting from the keyboard is far to easy for my girlfriend and will cost me a fortune)
once again thanks in advance for any replies
Rob
for the benefit of bextech:
it's VOIP Provider not VOIP, it's SMS Message not SMS :-)0 -
robred, using VoipBuster AND Sipgate together you can make free calls to any landline!!! Which is a lot cheaper than what you're doing!

You can if you have a router with built-in VoIP ports or use an ATA device such as the Linksys PAP2.It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0 -

This would use Skype am I correct? Or possible a BT VOIP service?
Either way I wouldn't recommend that for wanting free calls etc.. this thread was about how to give your PC a phone number, and how to make free calls from your PC to Landlines[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]"The internet is a great way to get on the net."

I'm going to set this up but I need some reccomendations for a USB handset.
Preferrably one thats like a real phone (ie, USB cable is not connected directly to the handset).
Not looking to spend a fortune either.0
