To Tip Or Not To Tip

I really don't tip much for anyone anymore, the reason being that is often not the person who you have left the tip who gets all of it. So you may leave something for the person who has been great, but it is shared with the grumpy lazy one too.
For that reason, when our local restaurant put up with us at New Year (boys were excited!), I shook hands with our waiteress and slipped her a fiver then. That way it was up to her if she shared or not.
But generally I don't tip for the same reason as others, because service everywhere is so average these days.
chevI want a job that is less than an hour driving away from my house! Are you listening universe?

I am a postie & usually make around £300 in tips at Xmas. Some people moan that 'this customer' only tipped them £1,but if everyone tipped them £1 they would receive over £500 in tips. I don't tip when I get my hair cut, I don't think it is the done thing at the place I go to.
At Christmas I bought my stylist a couple of bottles of something instead...paid for with vouchers.I'm the only gay in this forum

ooh yes I tip my hairdresser. Good hairdressers are like gold dust, unless you have a fairly plain style that just needs a trim at the ends and fringe. My wonderful hairdresser broke his arm about 2 years ago and has never been the same, so I had to find someone else and it took me about 6 rubbish cuts and horrid salons to find the lovely girl who does mine now. I can just leave it to her to choose what to do as she knows me so well and knows I like to chop and change it. Definitely tip her as her service is above and beyond just cutting the hair.
I always colour mine myself though - I couldn't bear the salon prices.0 -
I am a 'Home Shopping' driver, for ASDA. Tips, unfortunately, are very few and far between, on my job - even at Christmas.
Sometimes, however, customers will offer a tip, which we're not 'really' allowed to take  .
I think that if I added up all the tips I have received, since November, I would have change out of a tenner. :rotfl:
The odd £1.00 does, in fact, go a long way towards paying for cups of coffee, but I would never accept a tip from someone who obviously can't afford it - elderly ladies and young mums, for example - who, without home shopping would be at the mercy of the inflated prices of 'convenience stores'.
I also find that it is, usually, the higher spenders who tip the least.
If, on the other hand, we go out for a meal and the food and service is good, I will, happily, leave a tip, providing that the prices were reasonable as well.
As for tipping my hairdresser - I don't think men do that - do they?I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

I give my hairdresser a tenner - she is very good and only works part time, doing about 20 people, I only see her three times a year as she lives in my home town so when I come back from London she sees me when I need to, and charges £55 for highlights/cut/blowdry... more than double that in London so it's a sound long term investment! It would even be cheaper if I made special journeys!0

I tip everybody in any service industry that has done a good job...I will even be tipping my window fitters as they have done an excellent job...I also tip at christmas the bin men, postman ,window cleaner and car wash person..the christmas ones get £5....taxi drivers a £1...cafes a £1....restaurants at least £5....hairdresser £5....they have to have provided good service though....most of these people are on low wages at the end of the day .0

When eating out I tip according to level of service I think I've had. I've also done the 'handshake' to make sure the one I feel deserves the tip gets it.
Yeah, rog2, I sometimes get my haircut at a hairdressers close to where I work and the staff are all female. They always appreciate a tip. The other place I go to close to home which is mixed staff don't take one.
Mind you as my name suggests my hair doesn't need much styling and a sit in the chair doesn't take long!!0 -
A cut and colour for HOW MUCH!!!!!
I go to a local college, a cut and blow costs £5, the last time I had it coloured it was less than £25
It is a lot (nearly 3 times what I would have paid at my old hairdressers for starters), but I'm almost phobic about hairdressers and no way in the world would I go to a college to get it done, I'd rather just let it grow. It took me 20 years to pluck up the courage to move from a hairdressers who did do a good cut and colour but I was never overly pleased with it. I certainly wouldn't have the nerve to go to a random student each time, even if they paid me:o1st April 2008 challenge:mad: xmas overspend = [strike]£254.05[/strike] £0:j......cc1 = [strike]£240.78[/strike] £0:j .......cc2 = [strike]£667.47[/strike] £0 :j ...amount owed to ISA = [strike]£1599.90[/strike] £0:jTOTAL TO GO = [strike]£2762.20[/strike] £0 !!! DONE IT DONE IT DONE IT!!!:dance:0 -
