British Gas tell me new Boiler needed...HOW MUCH!?!

Just had some chap in becasuse the pilot light wouldnt go on. Took one look at it and asked where the vent system is? "Vent system?" i asked. We didnt have one. The boiler is at least 22 years old, a boiler usually lasts about 15 years im told. Furthermore law and regulations state that as from 1 June i think he said, boilers with no vents are condemmed or need a vent system installed.
He did say we are better to get a new boiler. Perhaps a Combi, replace the fire, which im happy to do with an electric. We would get a powerflush done on the radiators and 4 TRUs. Also got the option of having a radiator installed in the living room which the OH doesnt want.
Were told that a decent boiler is around the £1000 range, but they can do it all for us, perhaps £2500. An electrician would also appear and check all our electrics in the flat.
Now im no sherlock but i know that we get a quote from the big boys and then search around. Who else can we check with that are legit? BG would offer a free year of servicing plus an extra 2 years or more warranty depending on the boiler.
So who else can i get quotes from? Think our quotes are to be done by Friday this week.
Many many thanks!

Check with CORGI for local installers and get a few quotes. Understand where BG are coming from but maybe also check out how much to sort existing system if finances are unable to takethe strain. The world is over 4 billion years old and yet you somehow managed to exist at the same time as David Bowie0

Ok using the corgi site i fund 2 in my area that are within 5 miles. Now for a quote what exactly do i say? Just that i want a combi boiler installed, the old boiler removed and capped and the gas fire removed. Swithching over to electric fire?0

Hi
Could you just confirm that British Gas will do that for £2500.

Well he said he reckons about that but i wont know until i get the quote man out this week. Why is that too much? Or does it sound to cheap?0

Hi..that is the kind of price you would get from an independent CORGI for a quality boiler i.e. Worcester or Vaillant with heating controls (TRVs and programmable room stat) as well as a powerflush in the southeast. BG tends to be significantly more expensive. Get at least 3 written, full specification quotes in from CORGIs recommended to you by a source you trust.
