Switching from TALK TALK to SKY? HELP

Hello
Since my contract with Talk Talk has expired - I was thinking about switching to Sky Broadband. I have been told that I need a BT line by Sky. I called BT who informed me they could switch it but to get a MAC code from Talk Talk to give to Sky.
The only thing I was worried about was lost service for the broadband. Sky has informed me it will be for 30 - 1 hour. While BT say it could be days. I really don't know what to do? Can anyone please give me there experience?

Well first of all before you even look at downtimes, Sky are asking you to get the line back with BT. You'll be liable to a 12 month contract with BT for the landline. Something to keep note of if you wish to proceed.
From what it sounds like you'll have to get the line back with BT & then Sky will place an order for broadband on your line. 5 working days at the very least before you're active with Sky from them placing the order.

If you get "free" broadband from Talktalk then you are on their LLU network.
Read the To IPStream/DataStream or Shared LLU from Full LLU section here - http://www.broadbandchoices.co.uk/partner-lp_ofcom-migration-processes/ofcom-migration-processes.html#To%20IPStream/DataStream%20or%20Shared%20LLU%20from%20Full%20LLU to see how the process "should" work.
Also Sky are rumoured to be going in for "BT" line provision in a few months which may simplify things.
Ofcom are also publishing a new code of practice - http://www.thinkbroadband.com/news/3493-march-update-from-telecommunications-adjudicator.html - designed to be an authoritative guide and reference manual for migrating between all the different telephony/broadband packages on the go.
Getting to the stage you need a degree before migrating from one ISP to another.“I look like Spiderman at a funeral”~ Karl Pilkington0 -
Basically I don't want to go without broadband for any amount of time. If switching from TT to Sky means thats I think I will leave it. Is there not a easier way?0

No, not migrating from LLU, which is just the way Talktalk like it I suppose. Simultaneous provides are "supposed" to be getting better and should occur on the same day although finding two sales persons at an ISP and voice provider who know what you're on about is an entirely different matter.“I look like Spiderman at a funeral”~ Karl Pilkington0
