I had my first two years worth of insurance with Bell on a bonus accelerator policy when I came out of a company car scheme just over 3 years ago. When I rang for quotes I always specified that my 2 years NCB came from a bonus accelerator policy, some companies were fine others stated that as long as my letter from Bell stated 2 years, then exactly what type of policy I had had wouldn't matter. Make sure you specify this clearly when you ask for the quote and you should be fine. From memory I think more companies were ok than weren't, but I can't remember any names!0

So what is the point of going for the full year. It doesn't make sense.
It surely can't count to other insurers/"I'm not from around here, I have my own customs"
For confirmation: No, I'm not a 40 year old woman, I'm a 26 year old bloke!0 -
Pro rata a bonus accelerator policy costs more than an annual one. My quote is £512 for 10 months and £588 for a year.0

Thanks for all the replies.
Having done a search for the word 'accelerator' on this forum, I can definitely see where Dunstonh is coming from. Some accept it and some don't. As the 12 month policy is cheaper I think I'll go for that.
Thanks all.0 -
alot of drivers aged less than 25 find it hard to get insurance. but my son recently went on to positivepresent.com and got interest free insurance on a 9 month accelerator. Plus he is paying monthly which has made it really affordable.
One thing i was wondering was where is the best place to find pay as you go insurance? does this work and is it cost effective?0 -

Problems can arise when trying to use accelerator earned NCD on standard annual policies - as has been mentioned in this thread - because annual insurance is the norm.
Like a lot of insurances, if you don't make any claims then it's not a problem. I used to have the idea that if your insurance lasted for ten months, and you made a claim, then the likelihood is that you would be paying more for your insurance sooner.
I never really worked it out though.0 -

i think norwich union tried it as an experiment but it was an expensive disaster for them. they've blamed everyone else for being behind the times, and say they'll start again "when the rest of the country catches up"!!
but at the moment not sure of anyone offers pay as you go0 -

I'm 20 and currently looking to renew my insurance. However we will be wanting to put my 17-to-be brother on in October - I have searched for positivepresent.com but can find nothing at all. I know you mentioned it over a year ago but do you know if it's changed name or something since?
Thank you!0 -
I'm with Elephant and on the Bonus Accelerator and it's my understanding that other insurance companies will accept the 10 months as 1 years NCD. Also, I believe only people with less than 5 years NCD qualify for the bonus accelerator, as its designed for newer drivers to gain their NCD quicker.0
