After the 1 year fix period, the ISA reverts to an ISA Easy Saver, which I believe has no restrictions or costs on transferring to another provider.

I shall be giving notice around a month before fixed rate to transfer out, with instructions to B+B not to implement the transfer out until the maturity date. ;)

After fixed rate ends their will be no costs or restrictions on transferring out. ;)

So given that they need a months notice would doing this mean you're giving them the month and maximising your interest with another ISA provider?

Yep, in each of the last three years, I have also opened a 1 year fix with B&B and then transferred to another provider after the fixed rate period.

B&B offer a competitive rate for 1 year, but then the ISA becomes the Easy Saver with a very poor rate, currently 4.75%.

This year, I thought I'd open my ISA with the Skipton, and this morning, I tried to hand in an application form with a cheque for £3600 at the local Skipton to open their 6.26% fix rate account on Monday. However they asked me to call back next week, as their manager had instructed them not to take advance applications. I walked around the corner to the B&B, and handed in my application to a lady who said that she had taken 6 advance applications today, and 20 yesterday.

Quite popular this one as you'd expect, popped into the Holborn branch this morning and there was quite a queue, most people in front of me were opening the ISA, and at least a dozen folks after while I was filling out forms.
Hope for the best.....Plan for the worst!

I would open the Skipton one but on their ID list A, they ask for

-current signed passport - cant as Im going away soon and I woudnt send it anyway
-driving license - I need it for driving
-bank statement AND corresponding credit/debt card - Im definitely not sending my card through the post.

Give them a call as they did both my and my partners ID checks electronically over the phone (must be linked to the electoral roll). I double checked with them twice, and with two separate operators, wether I still needed to back up my proof of ID with documentation with the application but they insisted that I did not and that their records will show I am who I say I am and my application will be processed.

Ive opted for the B&B as I already have an account with them and it was easier to apply online.

Also would I be right in saying that even though B&B and Skipton rates are similar at 6.25% and 6.26%, if you open the account from April 10th onwards you will be better off with B&B (Based on the assumption that the skipton cash ISA rate doesnt go up). B&B pays 6.25% for a year from the account opening date whereas the Skipton pays 6.26% until April 5th where it then reverts to cash ISA currently 5.5%. According to my rough interest calculations:-

    A/C opening|B&B|Skipton (Skipton 6.26 and 5.5)
    April 9| £225| £225.06
    April 10| £225| £224.98
    April 15| £225| £224.61
    May 1 |£225| £223.41

    or am I wrong
