Hi all,
This prob is a really dumb question but.......... We have a medion HD LCD TV bought from Woolworths a couple of years ago. This week we had a V+ box installed so now we are able to use the HD part of the tv. Have bought a HDMI cable and plugged it into the back of both the tv and the V+ box. We previously used a scart lead and still have this plugged in too. Do i need to keep this plugged in aswell as the HDMI cable? Question is now what do i need to do? The picture still looks the same? do i need to tune it in or something?
Sorry if this is a very basic thing i'm asking but hey i am blonde!!!;)

You only need the HDMI cable plugged in, you will only see a difference if you are receiving an HD broadcast.
Theoretically the TV should switch to the HDMI input automatically , but you may need to select it with the AV button on your TV's remote.
Hope this helpsThat gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
Thanks for the quick reply.
When i remove the scart lead i can't find an av chanel that is displaying a picture? i have ext 1 which is the channel my scart is plugged into but have flicked through the others without the scart and just the hdmi cable in but can't find a picture on any just blank screen??0 -
Maybe a silly question but you have set your V+ box to HDMI output?
Found this thread which covers how to do it, no idea myself as I have Sky.
You may need to dig out the handbook.

you just need to bring up the page on your tv were you change between inputs. av1, av2, component, hdmi etc. you then just select hdmi and you will then be geting the picture from whatever is connected to the hdmi slot whether it be you virgin box or a games console. the simple way to test if you have done it right is to disconnected the scart cable you have connected and just have the hd cable connected and then see if you can get the picture from the virgin box on screen. if you can then its done. so basically its like i said just change the input to hdmi.0

Thanks Penrhyn seems i didn't have the box set to hdef!!!
Soo your silly question was my silly mistake!!...lol thanks again xxx0 -
you had to set the box to hd output? thats a daft thing to put into the design isnt it? well you arent going to get a hd box and then watch it in standard definition are you?
anyway i'm glad you got it sorted. :j0 -
By the way, Virgin do provide an HDMI cable free of charge when thay install V+, in which case the engineer would also have set it up to HD in the first place.0

The V+ boxes don't output Scart and HDMI at the same time like the Sky HD boxes do.
In the V+ menu, you need to select HD output, change your tv to HD then press a key on the remote to say you can see the picture.
I think at one point in the software the Scart 2 was also dissabled in the V+ software. No use for VCRs and DVD recorders.
They thought that everyone would just use the inbuilt hard drive for recording.I beep for Robins - Beep Beep

You go to the menu system in the V+ Recordings and select copy to DVD/VCR and it then uses the VCR SCART socket and allows you to record the selected programmes you have stored on the V+. This way also allows you to copy to DVD/VCR and then carry on watching something else on the V+ whilst it is copying the programmes.
The last code drop re-enabled the VCR SCART socket at all times in HDMI mode. So you can record what you are watching or playing back to DVD/VCR. However the best method is record on the V+ and then later use copy to DVD/VCR so you don't have to sit and watch what you are copying to DVD/VCR and carry on watching something else with the V+.It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0
