    First house purchase ... 2018 :j
  • My friend ordered bridesmaid dresses from Chine (she didn't know it's actually coming from there) and the dresses were unwearable. Nothing like on pics, wrong sizes, long shipping. She finally managed to find online store with showroom (evica.co.uk) and went there with the bridesmaids to see, try on and order the dresses. She found beautiful purple dresses there, cheap and nice quality. I wouldn't buy from China, especially wedding dress.
  • I bought my BM dresses from china, 3 dresses for just under £200! They were perfect.
The import tax bill turned up two months after the dresses though. I thought I had gotten away with it.

  • I was very nervious about my first oversea sghopping, I don't think all dresses made in China are in good quality, but the two dresses I bought from China are really well-made, I love it soooo much! Highly recommend the site which called alizeebridal
  • Hi all,

I know this was some time ago, but I am looking to go down the same route as you and try some of the recommended retailers on here suggested by you. Were most of you pleased with the finished article? Where any of you subjected to customs duty and taxes etc when the dress arrived? Just wanted to check as if the price is double or more once these have been added not sure that its worth it for a product that you've not even seen.
  • I received my wedding dress from dressilyme - overall I was pleased with the bargain I got - I would have paid over 4 times the amount had I bought it here.

I had it custom made, but though the length was perfect the bodice was way too big. The detail was much nicer than the website showed, and had no stains or embellishments falling off and was finished well. The material obviously isn't the finest silk or satin but for the price i paid I want expecting it to be!

I had to pay £16 customs bill, but £10 of that was a bill to the courier company!!

I would recommend taking a gamble but only if you have someone who can alter the dress for you - and definitely go and try similar style dresses on before ordering so you know what will suit you. Bare in mind also the size of the model used on the website and how the dress would actually look on your figure.

    Good luck!!
  • Hi All,

I've posted on this before but never managed to link/upload any pictures of my dress, from Dressilyme. I got married in June of this year and was very pleased with it. As others have said, it is not the finest silk satin and tulle, but it still looked lovely and was a bargain, considering it will only be worn once. We also have some lovely photos in corn and poppy fields which I would have refused to enter if I'd spent thousands on the dress!

Remember Occam's Razor - the simplest explanation is usually the right one. :)

    32 and mortgage-free :D
  • That is absolutely lovely TopQuark :)

How much was it? Around £200?
Probably would've been closer to £1000 in a 'Wedding' Shop.
Like you say, not the finest silk etc but it's hard to find anything that isn't polyester in a 'proper' wedding shop these days anyway.

I got my bridesmaids dresses from China - 'proper' ones would have likely been a bit better made, but not much, judging by the proper ones my sister bought 5 years ago for 5 times the price of mine. Certainly not 5 times better made, anyway :D
