The ones sold as healthy snacks are classed as luxury foods, and so are subject to VAT, making the price higher. Foods considered essential , such as the same nuts in the ingredients section, are zero rated.
So it's not a totally a Tesco ripoff, it's just compliance with bizarre VAT laws with (possibly) an element of taking advantage of the unaware or the impatient.

Just for your amusement (if you're a money geek)
McVities (maker of Jaffa Cakes) and HM Revenue and Customs went to a tribunal over whether Jaffa Cakes were a cake (zero rated VAT) or a chocolate biscuit (17.5% VAT). McVities won.
Thanks you made my day :rotfl:0 -
They are still gaining! I make the VAT on £1.45 to be 25p, so that would £1.70. 15p profit..... all adds up...

I've noticed this before with pine nuts. I'm pretty sure I've used both and they are identical.0
