IKEA - anyone else having probs?

I ordered some made to measure worktops 9 weeks ago knowing they would take 4 weeks. Delivery people rang to say it would be delivered then rang on the delivery date to say they hadn't been put on wagon. If only it were that simple - turns out they never put the order through and I would have to wait another 4 weeks. Was given a delivery date of 19th aug. They sent me a letter saying 27 September - no apology! I rang on Friday and asked to be rung back by a manager - still have heard nothing.
Anyone else having trouble with IKEA (Leeds branch)?

Heard that one before from Leeds branch? They wait till they have lots of orders then put the orders through!
Then they get a big delivery though, it saves money on transport sending lots of items instead of sending a few?I'm not poor i'm just skint0 -
Always had so many problems with IKEA we just stopped using them. Design might be OK, but quality very poor.
Once bought a single dining chair because we wanted to try it out. Went back a few weeks later, it was out of stock. Could never get through on phone and it was never there when we went. Then it got to Aug/Sep and new catalogue time. Guess what... They had discontinued it!
Only thing they really seem to be good for is small items. Used to do great, inexpensive blankets, but those no longer exist. Really cheap for night lights, bed linen resonably priced, plastic plates, etc.

Well and update on our situation - I rang head office and they are going to pay our original fitters bill which we had to pay as IKEA didn't tell us in time to cancel it. They have offered to either:
1. pay for cheap worktops and fitting whilst we wait for new ones and then we sort our own fitting when the tops finally arrive.
2. wait and they'll pay fitting.
With either case they said they'll sort compensation out afterwards.
We are stuck with IKEA tops as their units are deeper than the average worktop width. So we are thinking go and get bog standard IKEA worktops instead of custom made ones and get them to give us them free and they fit them. I think they'll go for this as they have 300 customers in our situation (although most of them have only been delayed once except those who placed orders that were never processed by Leeds). And then see what they'll do in the way of compensating me for lack of worktops and inconvenience afterwards- considering I placed the original order on 18 June I think this is reasonable.
What do you reckon?

Whats the difference between the standard and custom made worktops? (Just out of curiosity).
Definately sounds reasonable that they should provide some sort of compensation for the problems and delays.0 -

But I disagree with krishna about small items. Although I think that IKEA are generally cheapest for furniture, I find that for fabrics, you're often better off at ADSA or Primark, and for general homewares Wilkinsons is often cheaper.0 -
The difference is the wood trim that would have matched the doors. But now we've got them fitted we're quite happy with the normal ones. Apparently IKEA weren't happy witht he order the manufacturer sent and sent it back but failed to inform us about this. I thought it quite telling that when we went in to query something else they said don't ring customer services write them a letter.
But we are happy to finally be finishing a kitchen that was started in June.

I bought a kitchen from Ikea Leeds in July. When we got the many hundreds of boxes home, we found that one of the doors they supplied for the corner wall unit was the standard height not the longer height as required.
I returned it and requested a replacement. They said it was out of stock but due in in three weeks. I went in three weeks later and was told it was still out of stock.
Apparently they wait until they have a few on order before putting the order through. I explained that they had given me the wrong size in the first place and that I'd already been waiting three weeks.
I also mentioned that they were showing it as being in stock at other branches so could they possibly transfer it to the Leeds store. They said that they don't transfer stock between stores.
They then said they would put the order through for the door again and that it should be in in three weeks!!!
I am still waiting.
I have been really pleased with the quality of the kitchen but this one missing door is really starting to bug me.Twins, twice the laughs, twice the fun, twice the mess!:j:j0 -
I have contacted IKEA again today to see when my kitchen door is due in. Guess what, it will be three weeks!!
I explained that I was was told three weeks last time I spoke to them and she basically said she didn't know why it wasn't in stock. She helpfully informed me that they are in stock in the Edinburgh and Thurrock store!! even though I am in Leeds. And of course they don't do transfers between stores. So, if anyone happens to be passing Ikea in Thurrock or Edinburgh and fancies popping in to collect item no.700-1070-41 let me know ; )Twins, twice the laughs, twice the fun, twice the mess!:j:j0 -
The general rule of thumb here with Ikea that I have found seems to be if you want it they don't have and they can never give you a delivery date so it is a waste of time asking - as I have found on several occassions!
So if it is there and you want it get it whilst you can - we made the mistake once of thinking as there seemed to be hundreds of a certain chair that we could easily get some more the following week but it wasn't the case..............0 -
yeah I would tend to agree. Ikea are well priced on kitchens but unless it is there in store for me to check and then take away then I wouldnt touch them! too many horror stories.
