Urgent: References in my assignment Please Help ASAP

I hope some can help me. I know I should know this but anyway... I have a 2000 word limit for my assignment, now do the References and dates used within the text of the assignment count towards the 2000 word limit?? :(

I always get confused  with this as I know the References in the Reference section aren't counted in the word limit!

Thanks in advance for your help.

  • As far as I'm aware they do not count. References, quotations and anything else that isn't your own work generally isn't included. Hope that helps.

Depends on your uni I'm afraid, they count for us.

Yep, it depends on your uni.

They have only just started to count for us - they didn't up until Christmas.

It depends on the subject at my uni too.

Have you got a handbook or subject guide, printed or online? It should be written somewhere I'd have thought.
  • Sorry for misleading you. Normally I only write lab reports so don't have to deal with such problems.

I always used to go by the main body of the text for teh word count. i.e exclude titles, references etc.

You should really ask someone in the department because every uni and every department has different rules for referencing and suchlike.
