IB is counted as income. If you have any savings this will affect the amount that you can claim.

I've just checked, apparently there is a disregard for the first £20 and only 50% is counted thereafter.

so using the £150 example, would i have to pay (£150-£20)/2=£65 towards my rent and i get to keep the difference ?

    No, that is not correct.

If you want to check your figures, you would be best advised to enter figures into www.entitledto.com.

That is the maximum LHA you would be entitled to if you were entitled to full housing benefit. However if you sublet the spare room, there would be a non dependent deduction dependent on the earnings of the lodger.

    Typical 3 bed.
£700pw x52 = £36,400 housing benefit per year:eek: You would need a salary of £52,000 just in order to pay for the house if you were working.

If you pop kids out left right and chelsea:D 5bed....
£1750pw x 52 = £91,000 housing benefit per year:eek: A salary of £145,000 required just to pay for house if you were working.

Absoloute ludicrous:mad: Benefit system needs scrapping!!!!

Just to show how much help the government actually gives people. There would be no incentive to work especially with free funding like that.

Better off on benefits, which is obviously wrong.

I did not think that this was the place to debate the appropriation of benefits?

I have to admit I agree with you, take where i live, manchester which has quite cheap rents compared to the rest of the country.

    if your "disabled"

    IB £99
    DLA £17 (lowest rate)
    LHA £130

    Total: £236

you would need to earn £300 per week (£15k pa) before tax to come out better off.
