Dell V Sony

I am considering buying a laptop either Dell or Sony, which brand is considered best, is the Sony price premium worth it.
Within each brand which range is best, I am lookinf for a fast machine with around 4g ram.

Not to sure on which is best but I will be honest we supply and support Dell units at work and the Desktops and Laptops have all been very good tbh. They usually come out of the box with a few bits of annoying software like google desktop but not to hard to remove.

We have supplied about 300 Dell units in the last 3 years and have had warently faults in about 4!!!

I've got both, and much prefer the Dell (which actually belongs to work).

It was also much better in terms of value for money than my Sony.

Personally it would be Dell rather than the more flashy and pricey Sony .
But it depends upon your price range .
Me i bought a Samsung R60 as it was best value best looking and fair spec in the price range i was looking at . Cheap to use as a portable with main desktop doing the grunt work .
Decide what you intend to do with the machine before you consider what specs .

Check out the price of the sony, then use www.dmxdimension.com to find dells equivalent.

I'd struggle to see how the Sony is (often) costing twice as much. Depends how affluent you are and how much you value the Sony brand.

I've never been impressed with Dell. They work and use a lot of "dell only" type stuff.

Sony use loads of "sony only" type stuff, but they just feel better made.

I have a Vaio at the moment and haven't regretted it once.

we use dell in work, both laptops and desktops all standard components.

Never noticed any "dell only" stuff.

Dell are very good price, and very good warranty.

with sony you pay for the name.

Just to underline my hatred of Sony, the last Sony product we bought was a Sony PVR, which turned out was a re-badged and essentially crap product, but we paid well overt the odds for the Sony name, neadless to say it went back unopened as soon as I found this out, IMO, Sony charges a lot for the brand but I have never seen a Sony product (with the possible exception of a metal walkman I bought 20 years ago) that I thought was worth the extra money. If I was wanting to buy a premium laptop then I'd look at an Apple to be honest, but for now I'll stick with Dell, Acer, Samsung, I reckon their kit is honestly priced.

Dell machines are widely used in the IT industry, everywhere from software developers to government offices. I guess they must be doing something right.

I've never seen a Sony machine outside of PC world
