  • I use the combination of leaving clothes overnight on a clothes horse and then a very quick spin in the tumble dryer for clothes that are still damp.

i've got a tumbly but i can't get to it. so i've been really inventive and i'm so chuffed. My son is now out of a cot and i've got some spare side of the cot. i've stood them up at an angle against rad ( so cot side looks like a ladder) and i've hung clothes on this. It is taking just over a day and it wil brill. really slimline and doesn't get in way. i find with 3 young children and hubby on building site we have alot of washing at least 1 big load a day ( i've got a bigger size washign machine) so i need to keep on top of it.

i'm so impressed with my inventive-ness. that i'm gonna keep hold of the cot bit's from the cot bed.

I find hanging tops on hangers and then on the shower rail in the bathroom with a window open a little bit dries them overnight. I have also been known to hang things inside the airing cupboard if I need it urgently. An airer with smaller stuff stays in the kitchen by the back door, so gets some sun (ha ha). Sometimes takes a couple of days to get it dry though.

Small clothes airer that stands in the bathtub. It helps that the boiler sits underneath the bathroom, so that our bathroom has all the hot pipes under the flooring and is the warmest room in the houst (free underfloor heating :))
  • Clothes horse by the radiator with a dish of salt underneath them, sounds odd but cuts down my drying time and makes the house less humid! Just watch out if you have any pets! Not sure if they'd get into it?

Has gone to play on her own little world for a bit..... but its ok the voices in her head came too so she's not alone ;)

    Hi,
as mentioned before on another thread we have had a energy saver monitor arrived which has opened our eyes a bit:eek:
    And as i have a large family(ddx4 ,dd,dgs,ddi nlawx2,and ds inlaw)oh and me....well i wash for 11.

i get to the point, rads are on today its raining and damp,
underwear go onto rads in bedrooms
    teatowels,dishclothes on kitchen rad,
work clothes on con rads (have 3 big rad in there)
towels get tumbled will not have them hanging around.
jeans get collected till a good day washed then line hung finshed off on rads.Plus any thing else if a good day.
Any thing that needs ironing gets tumbled saves ironing then!
any thing that dont need ironing ,pjs, jumpers get onto 2 big wooden clothes horses.
    Grandson stuff i tumble
But i wash every day even Christmas day a load.
and use the airing cupboard for slight damp stuff to finsh off

I have those wee radiator racks on each rad, and I pop the clothes on those to dry while the heating's on in the evening

Hiya, you don't say if you've got an airing cupboard, l hung a clothes rail in there and hung everything on coat hangers to dry.

We don't have an airing cupboard in this house but l've got a clothes airer that l stand by a radiator in a room not used very much (don;t like people seeing my undies dry lol), l do hang things outside even on cold days if there's a breeze because things do dry so much quicker on the airer if they've been blown about outside, l've also got an overhead hanger in the utility room which is my new 'toy'! £16 from Ikea - bargain :T that room gets so warm sometimes.

You could ask on freecycyle for a tumbler (if you want one) in the winter l always dry towels and flannels in there l like them fluffy and soft.

As you can tell l LOVE washing and ironing, l really do! :o

    Happy moneysaving all.
  • I dont have a dryer either, sometimes I wish I did but I dont mind really.... I use the clothes horse thats as old as mi granny, and those over the rad thingy's.. I use over the door for sheets and jeans and my hairdryer for my smalls... thats a joke, lol.
