I don't know if the same situation applies, however we attempted to get our sky reconnected after having it disconnected from opt-ing out of the contract - They informed us that everything though it was already installed, we would have to pay the £60 installation to cover "reconnection fees" and would not reconnect us without paying this. Safe to say we haven't paid it, and haven't yet been reconnected.

    Hi fudge7000,

I have done exactly what you want to do with no problems. I bought a second hand out of warranty Sky+ box off of ebay, phoned sky up, explained I had the box and the cabling and just wanted the Sky+ services turned on and they did it.

Sky+ does not cost as long as you are receiving some digital service from sky (i.e. Sky TV).

    Hope this helps.

What nobody here has mentioned and might put a spanner in it, is that Sky+ uses a twin LNB on the dish so you need to upgrade the dish and run a second cable. Simply plugging a Sky+ box in place of a Sky box won't work.

i've heard its doable but tricky and voids any warranty of course. Google for advice, there are photo guides that will walk you through

By the way, if you have a Sky box and leave it unplugged for a few days you will need to phone the Sky team again for them to turn it back on.

Yes, its not difficult, the problem i had when i tried to fit a 250Gb hard drive was that the fan then ran continuously. Couple of links here

About 6 months ago I bought a brand new Sky HD box from a Sky dealer for £180 off eBay with the usual 1 year warrany and this was £120 cheaper than Sky wanted at the time.
I then bought a quad LNB and extra cable and connectors and then fitted my old Sky+ box at my mums house.
Always looking for a bargain and to help

He already said in post #1 that the property is equipped for sky+ as the previous occupants had it.
