Sky plus, can i buy a box off ebay?

Hi fellow moneysavers!

I have decided that I want sky plus, but am not keen on the £100 for the box and £60 for them to install it.

The previous people who owned my house had sky plus, therefore i have the second cable thing that you need already.

Question is, can i buy a sky plus box off ebay for about £40, plug it in and it work? will sky know ive got it and block it etc? or will i need a new viewing card etc that they'll then charge me a fortune for? bear in mind i am a technophobe, so it cant be too complicated!!

Not keen on the ringing sky up and threatening to leave unless they give it me cheap as i'm useless at things like that (but may give it a go if others have managed a free box!)

thanks for the help!!
becki

yes it should work, but you would need to ring sky up to pair your current viewing card up with the new box, so then you can use the sky+ features, HTH Dave.

Added to the minimum £10.00 a month you will need to pay Sky to use it's funcionality fully.

Sky do not own a box once it is out of contract.

If they have, it must have been very recently, to use the full functions, as far as I am aware, you still need to pay Sky a minimum of £10 per month.

Check with Sky to be certain.

Sky don't charge the £10/month for Sky+ now (well they're not charging me!)

No problem then, but you didn't say that in your original post.
