I think Tiscali still have a long way to go before we can consider any news from them as good news.

They are still the most complained about ISP in the UK. They have topped the list for ages now, and it doesn't seem to be getting any better.

    Quote

    # Complaint - Poor Support / Slow Speeds / Connection Problems / Billing Errors
    # No. Complaints - HIGH (172)
    # Status - Unresolved
    # Details - Users are complaining of slow speeds, along with the usual poor support, billing problems and sometimes connection difficulties.
    # UPDATE 19/08/2005: 3 New Complaints - Poor support and billing problems.

There are many different interpretations of the word 'unlimited' by ISP's. All ISP's have a clause in their T&C's where they can take action against heavy users.

  • I'vejust tried this link... it'll be interesting to see if it works.
I have upgraded to 2mg for £17.99 per month. I am currently on 1mg for £24.99!!!!!!!

Does it put you in a new contract? I coulnd see anywhere that it stated this...

it probably will put you in a new contract - unless you paid for the upgrade
  • have just upgraded to the unlimited 2mb at £17.99. It doesn't put you onto a new contract, ie. tie you into tiscali for another 12 months.

How are they changing their usage policy though?? Is it just a case of limiting the "unlimited" connection?

We've been with BT for the last 2yrs been paying £27.99 per month for 2mb capped. With these Tiscali packages being launched, my partner telephoned BT up seeking to cancel this contract (knowing he would end up with the hard sell in the cancellation department;) ).

They offered to match the £17.99 2mb uncapped Tiscali package straight away, which we accepted. BT claimed they were going to contact my parter sometime soon anyway about reducing the amount, yeah and pigs might fly.

We haven't had any hassels with BT but I can't say the same for anyone else.

Having worked for an ISP I still can't understand why they are allowed to advertise anything as unlimited when it clearly isn't. The ISP I worked for advertised unlimited webspace. Soon afterwards a customer phoned asking why he couldn't upload more than 1.5GB, the reason being that was the "unlimited" limit the ISP had placed on webspace. Unlimited in internet terms has become a marketing word with no meaning and it shouldn't be allowed.
  • I don't know if anyone has noticed but if you have Tiscali broadband then your homepage is set to https://www.tiscali.co.uk/broadband - note the last word. This homepage looks very similar to https://www.tiscali.co.uk/ except if doesn't show any of the new offers or easily let you upgrade to another improved broadband service - more than a little annoying !!!!
