Not sure about Rhyl being a fab place. Its one of the most rundown places in the UK. My OH comes from that area and hasn't got a good word to say for it

CHester zoo is very child friendly. You are also not very far from Cheshire Oaks at Ellesmere Port, a massive impressive designer discount outlet,if you fancy some shopping. What about a visit to Chester and a trip on the river,Or visit Dewa Roman Experience,or the Grosvenor Museum? There is a nice restaurant in Watergate Street,if you arrive at 6pm weekdays called moules a go go that has a special offer of 2 courses for £6
  • Hi

I have a lot of experience up that way, I live half way between Chester and Prestatyn. I have been to Prestatyn Haven a few times. The site is absolutely massive!!, last time we went our caravan was so far from the entertainment block we would take it in turns to drive up there at night!, Hafon Y Mor seems to have a few things scattered about but at Prestatyn everything is together in one area up at the top.

There are hundreds and hundreds of caravans on there so if you have young kids dont let them out the door as its like a maze for them lol!

As for outside of Haven, you can continue up the coast road to Rhyl, where there is a Cinema and Sealife centre and a few shops. Mostly arcades and a fun fair which will be open in the summer. Rhyl is run down but at least in the summer it will be at its best.

Chester Zoo is a really really nice day out however, it costs around £60 for a family of four and is still about an hours drive from Haven. There are lots of Castles and etc about for example Boddelwyddan.

Now personally if you wanted to go somewhere for a fun day out, I would go to Farmworld!!! this is in Mancot, Flintshire and its great fun. It only costs a couple of pound to get in and they have some great animals there, they have a little theatre with shows on and you can take tractor rides and you can feed the baby goats with little bottles of milk and they ostriches etc, check out their website. (not sure how old your kids are but this is probably better for people with younger kids).
