am i missing something here, i did not think you actually needed files to get on broadband, i thought it was just a case of sticking all the wires in the right place and you should be able to get onto the internet, i thought the disk that bt supplied, the only thing that does is update your pc i.e install bt help, norton internet protection(if you get that on your package), i may be wrong, but i thought broadband was different to dial up(where you do need to install the files first).

It depends really. If the modem is USB based, which unfortunately the 330 is, you need to install drivers on the PC. If you have an ethernet based modem and you have an ethernet connection on your PC (as most modern PCs do) then you can just plug it in and it will/should work.

With dialup, you didn't actually have to install any files. All the CD would do, would be to set up a connection to their phone number - you could've done this yourself - and of course it would've stuck all the ISPs help files and other unnecessary gubbins!

Personally if I had just bought a shiny new computer I would not bother with a USB modem, get a new router/modem with that way you have a hardware firewall and much better security.
