Which Pay-As-You-Go ?

I recently switched from Virgin to Tesco (O2).
Calls to other mobile phone networks is cheaper than Virgin, but I now find that I am being charged for calling Voicemail.
This is outrageous !
I am thinking of changing to another network.
Is there a site that compares various network pay-as-you-go tariffs that includes all of the 'hidden' charges ?

many are now charging for voicemail access - contract and PAYG - you just need to do your own homework before switching, because there's no guarantee that any given site will have the bang-up-to-date details and the networks chop and change like there's no tomorrow.

e.g. T-mobile Flext being a case in point, they changed over to charging for voicemail and minimum of 1 minute billing, but the basic offering is still sold the same way, under the same name, and for the same price.

Only Virgin & 3 offer free voicemail now.

Virgin are doing their 'daily bonus' tariff, which is more competitive.
3 have a 'flat 12' pence for everything, but you can buy bundles & stretch to make it cheaper.

  • Get out of Tesco - fast.

If you pay on line with you credit card the system can take the money twice from you credit card account - and you may only find out about it when you look at your credit card.

Once it has receipted you then that should be the end of it but it can still take the moey again.

Apparently they are having 'problems' with this and know about it and everyone will be repaid, or so I am told.

I would advise anyone who is worried about security not to use the Tesco site unless they have been reasured that credit cards cannot be used twice for the one transaction, as they may have cleared this up by now..

I too am reliant on voicemail, so as a light user for outgoing calls free voicemail is a requirement.

I recommend Virgin's Daily Bonus tariff
All networks 15p/min for first 5 minutes each day
    Next 5 minutes are FREE
    Then 15p/min thereafter

Virgin Texts 5p each for first 5 each day
Next 5 are FREE then 5p each
Other texts 10p each for first 5 each dat
Next 5 FREE then 10p each

You have to be PAYG top-up account to get this deal - not available on PAYG-by-direct-debit.

I think 3Pay offer the best deal for PAYG at the moment, Flat12 offers 12p per minute on calls, including x-net, 10p texts, and if you get into the internet it's from £5 per month for 1GB. Browsing the 3Portal on the phone is also free, including data transfer.

With the stretch bundles you can get calls and texts down even cheaper. (ISTR 3p texts and 5p per minute is possible with the bundles).

Voicemail is also still free on 3.

  • Its not often Id defend tesco but I have to say that I am really pleased with their PAYG phones. Switched to them 18 months ago, I do the online top up to get 10% off and once they topped up too little, but they noticed their mistake quicker than I did, then they made up the top up and gave me the difference free. I have also found it easy to stop, restart or change the online top ups when I want. I was with 02 and my usage hasn't changed at all, but instead of paying around £28 month on contract I now use about £6 month credit.
Also when I have wanted to switch between their tariffs its been done quickly and easily.
So far they have a big thumbs up from me.

Something will probably go wrong with my phone now.........
    Current mortgage 133k
    Purchase price 171k
    Fixed deal ends sept 2019
    Current repayments 640pm
    Savings approx 60k

i am with tesco and happy with the service not worried about top up as we shop there anyway and charges are reasonable especially you can pick 3 numbers at half price
