New Karoo Broadband Packages - Worse Than Ever?

Options
Hi,

Hull's only ISP Karoo has announced changes to their broadband packages (see http://www.karoo.co.uk/broadband/).

Currently we pay £19.99 for up to 8mb broadband with no download limits (and rubbish quality and service). Setup is currently free too.

Now whilst it might seem that we can save a bit of money with the new deal (£16.99 a month for the same speed), they have introduced download limits and a setup fee.

I'm a little bit annoyed with this because I thought that internet access was supposed to get faster, better and cheaper all the time.

It will be quite easy to eat up the 10gb download limit in a month as I do a fair bit of downloading and online gaming. I also have two computers to keep up to date.

Is anybody else a little bit annoyed with this step back in time?

  • Hi all,
If you are un-lucky enough to live in the Kingston Communication area (Hull, Beverley ect) you DO NOT HAVE ANY CHOICE OF BROADBAND PROVIDER.

I use the Karoo Max Option 1, this means that I get up to 8meg download speed, between the hours of 6pm and 12 pm every day I am limited to 20 gig a month.

All other time of the day there is no usage limit.
Also during the hours between 6pm and 12pm my speed drops down somewhat.
This costs me £16.99 a month, not the best deal in the world but at least I don’t have any limit during the day of after 12 on a night.

Anyway, Karoo have now stopped doing the package I have for new customers, so hear is what you get for £16.99 now.

Up to 8meg download speed, 10 gig mouthy usage allowance (at any time of day or night) if you go over the charge you for each gig separately.

So, this is clearly a rip off compared to my package, as I download over 40gig a month.

I am a Sky TV customer so, if I lived in BT land I could get 16meg unlimited Sky Broadband for £10 a month.

Every time Karoo update their packages the deals get worse and you get less and less for your money.

Karoo know that if you want broadband in the Hull area you have no choice but to use them , so they and charge and limit you as much as they want and there is no competition what so ever.

They no longer give any unlimited broadband packages, the closest you can get is 75gig a month limit with a price tag of £30 per month.

PLEASE CAN ANYBODY STOP THIS COMPANY DOING THIS TO US?

    Only the government.
  • Hi , I live in Thorngumbald and current have KC for home phone and broadband. I have only lived here 5 years and had them since then, but the previous owners used to have BT at some point as there is a BT box in the hallway next to the KC one, I rang BT and they want £125 to move me over to them as an engineer needs to come out apparently, now my choice is, do I pay the £125 to reconnect and perhaps get the Sky package with 3 mixes, 8GB download speed @ 40GB a month and the free eveing and weekend calls? Having never used another comms provider I am a little unsure.

    Anyone got any suggestions?

    Regards

    Dave
  • Hi i'm with karoo, and was lucky (cough) to get their 16.99 deal BEFORE they introduced the monthly limits, as soon as they did, I rang them to complain (sorry, enquire!) and they said they had no intention of converting existing packages over to the new LIMITED packages.. so far they've kept to their word.. we'll see how long it takes them to "upgrade".. even thou my download rate is slow, it's usable and it's unlimited, I'd rather have a reduced speed and unlimited download, than faster speed and limited download.. I also told them they needed an intermediate package.. as the gaps between the packages are too big and too costly.. they say they listen to customers, and a recent "independant" review said they were not a monopoly! how is this possible!?
