When Stardrops fails, where do you go??

Am on my annual spring clean and decided to tackle the tops of the kitchen cupboards.

In my defence i only moved into the property a year ago and have not got round to cleaning them before-well, obviously no one else who's lived here has either:confused: they are thick with scum/grease etc.

I started the attack with stardrops and hot water and it didn't even shift a millimeter of the stuff. So then i went onto sugar soap and still nothing. I tried every cleaning stuff i have in the house and theres not even a slight hole in the grease, nor has it made it even slighty gungy.
Help, where do i go from here (my plan is that i can't see it so it doesn't exist:rolleyes: , but if anyone has any brilliant ideas i'd really appreciate it)

Thanks

I got some lemon scented scouring powder from the local poundshop and the abrasive action helped.

White vinegar diluted in a bit of hot water to cut through the grease? Then followed by a highly concentrated stardrops solution?

  • Thanks, i'll give them a go.:D
Not used scouring powder for years and years and i can't think why as it was always great stuff.

Bar Keepers Friend. Available from big supermarkets, John Lewis or hardware stores.

Have you tried scraping the top layer of gunk off with a paint scraper or something similar like a hob scraper?( I got mine from Lakeland) then whatever you use to clean with will have a better chance of working. To save having to scub the tops again I cover them with a sheet of cling film then all you do is whip it off and put on a clean bit every now and again.
  • I've not tried scraping it, no, but will give it a go. Thats something to look forward to tomorrow, not!!

    Cling-film..what a brilliant idea:D

I did try brillo pads and they didn't do anything. Will try and find some bar keepers friend too.

    Thanks everyone.

I used offcuts of lino for the tops of my cupboards until I got a new kitchen with under cupboard light. The transformers mean I can't lay the lino properly as it is impossible to cut round them when they are up in the air!

Okay the lights look good but I hardly use them so I have bookmarked this thread for when I get the courage to tackle them.

I agree. I am the Dark Lord of the Cif. vader.gif

May the fourth be with you.

I am a Stardrops fan, but even I realise that, for serious grime like this, you may need to use the "chemical weapons".

PS. For next time, put newspaper on top of the cupboards. Then just change it next time.
