we used to be with telewest and when they changed to virgin we had endless amount of problems and decided to move to sky (which so far, has been the best thing we ever did).....anyway just abit of a tip here, as it costs you everytime you ring the helpline etc at virgin, I found the best (and most prompt) customer service, was to go via their newsgroup. You can post an email on the appropriate newsgroup and the technicians usually get back to you within the hour....they help with all sorts of queries and problems but you just have to make sure you post on the appropriate newsgroup......good luck'Normal' is a dryer setting.0

After all that I guess Virgin isn't the ISP I want? :undecided0

Just a note really.
Virgin didn't take over NTL or Telewest.
NTL and Telewest merged to create NTL:Telewest.
NTL:Telewest then bought Virgin Mobile and then pay Richard Branson (who became a 10.7% shareholder) an annual fee to use the Virgin brand name.
It's still NTL:Telewest running the business, just paying to use the Virgin name.
Like Virgin Radio and Virgin Records aren't Virgin companies, they just use the name. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0 -
Thanks SO much everyone. Seems like I'm stuck with VM for half a year yet. But I'll definitely try haggling with them on price (then again, what makes me nervous of that is that they might just decide to slow my bb access down. Mmmm...). Failing that, I will challenge them when they put up the price.
What I still find amazing is that in this country, the UK, (I know in France this kind of thing would be unheard of) we can get locked into 12-month-long contracts (without a real choice, if we actually want bb/phone or whatever service), which then gives the supplier licence to abuse their powers. Seems that they do...0 -

You wont get far haggling, the only people retentions will deal with is people who are out of contract.Doobydools wrote: »What I still find amazing is that in this country, the UK, (I know in France this kind of thing would be unheard of) we can get locked into 12-month-long contracts (without a real choice, if we actually want bb/phone or whatever service), which then gives the supplier licence to abuse their powers. Ok, theres a reason why they have 12 month contracts. Its down to the installation costs.
You remove the 12 month contracts & you'll then have to pay a charge for installation & ceasing of the service every time you want to switch providers.0
