We aren't sheep as I've seen posted before, we all have our own minds to make our own decisions.

I'm afraid anyone who came on this board and tried to suggest that these banks were dodgy were called sheep - and that was on a polite day. It is important for regular posters to realise that they acted as a "crowd" preventing useful information being posted on this board.

well everyone will get their money back, I am glad.

I can’t believe after everything that has happened in the past 48 hours, some people on here are trying to play it cool and even now insult others who held a different view from them. Even Martin himself when this thread was originally posted, was more balanced (while I still disagree) with his views.

Some are now acting at playing it cool and actually insulting others, making out that they knew all along that they wouldn’t loose money, I don’t think they fully appreciate just how close they came to losing most of it.

It’s attitudes like that, that will result in people being embarrassed to ask questions and whether you like it or not some simply followed the best buy table without question but with full trust and faith that nobody would mislead them.

You were right back in April and you are right now. This board should be thanking you and eating a little humble pie.
  • Hi

Please try to keep this thread on topic.

Obviously disagree with each other, because you will, but do it pleasantly please!

    Thank you

    Andrea :)

I thought I would post this here as might get a balanced view, rather then the usual groupies.

I am considering Anglo Irish Bank Fixed Rate Bond 7.05%, already applied for The AA.

Some have raised questions as to whether the Irish government could afford to pay out should anything go wrong, simply due to the size of the banks. What views do people have? Any links to articles would be appreciated.

I think that the FSCS only paid out on Icesave (the Icelandic share) as it was relatively small and I don’t think they will keep doing it as they could fairly claim that people are now aware of the scheme. Also it (FSCS) was responsible for part of the payout.

As Anglo Irish is covered by the Irish scheme (government) does it mean that the FSCS does not play any part in the bank for compensation?

So what would happen if the bank failed and the Irish government could not pay?

Would you be paid in Euros or £?

    Thanks in advance.
  • Nobody can tell you that the Irish Govt's guarantee is good, surely. The ROI's economy is in a worse state than the UK. They were much more over reliant on property/construction for growth even than the UK. Personally, I would avoid Irish banks but of course this is just my humble opinion.
