LCD or Plasma????

I cannot comment on the life of LCDs except that the one for my PC is nearly 6 years old and is going fine.

What makes them "in the know"? The latest Panasonics for example have a lifespan of 100,000 hours (i.e. before they reach half brightness). That works out at over 40 years if watching 8 hours a day seven days a week. LCDs were 60,000 but are now also about 100,000 hours lifespan so there's nothing to choose between them. Whoever gave you your info is about 7-8 years out of date. I bet they told you plasmas need regassing as well."She is quite the oddball.
